I understand abortion if the mother is in serious danger of illness or dying from the preganancy. I can even understand if she is raped. But if you are having consensual sex, and a little swimmer gets through, the baby should be born. Sex always comes with the risk of pregnancy. Pregnancy may be difficult, but unless one of the first two scenarios I mentioned is the case, the baby should be born.

My sister is waiting for a child and would have loved any aborted fetus to death. There are two million infertile couples like her and my brother in law waiting for babies.

That's not the point. It's not about the child, it's about the woman and the rights to her own body.

From a purely personal standpoint, I don't love the idea of abortion. No one does. In many cases, I wish it's not something that would happen. But it's not up to me or anyone to speak for any individual woman and her right to choose.

Due to abortion, the number of women who place their child up for adoption has reduced from 9% to 1%. There are still hundreds of thousands of kids every year that need adopting.

Due to abortion, the teen pregnancy rate has dropped to it's lowest level ever.

Now, I'm not saying "if you get pregnant and don't want it, get an abortion!". But if the mother feels that she is not in a place to care for a child, or does drugs, or any other of the millions of reasons to have an abortion, then she has the right to have one.

But is it really the pregnancy rate that has fallen or the birth rate? Even if you abort, that means you were pregnant.
And if there is a drop in pregnancy rate, I think that's more due to a better use of contraceptives and improvements in their effects.

Why are you guys arguing points with him? He's not going to suddenly see the light on this one. Normal people understand that abortion is never the best choice to be made but in some cases it has to be made and other cases it should be made. Not everyone is fit to be a parent and if they happen to become pregnant and don't want to go through with it, it should be their choice, not people who regularly consult God on all their decisions.
