But the next format isn't going to be physical. Remember the thread?

Remember you mocking zwackerm for buy "ma-ga-zines", a format that has been around for decades and will never be obsolete? Yet you buy DVDs that will be obsolete in a few years and you'll need to sell all of them and start afresh.

I actually wasn't mocking zwack, but thanks for reading into that. I'll take the credit.

Magazines will never be obsolete because they'll go online. Print versions will be completely obsolete outside of rare ones that you'll find on eBay. They're just too disposable of a format. DVD/Blu-ray isn't going anywhere anytime soon for that very reason. Too many people like having movies in their possession. At worst they'll become a niche format. They're also not endangered like print media, at least not now. I've heard DVD's have been dying for about ten years now (when Blu-ray and HD-DVD were introduced). Still waiting. And if I have to switch to another format in twenty years (to use your timeline), then so be it. I'll worry about it YEARS from now. It's not going to happen until the kids who do nothing but stream are the ones who are spending the most money.

Also, why would I sell them if they have no value? Just ask people who collected vinyl and got rid of their collections. I'm sure they're feeling great about that decision now.

If magazines were going to be obsolete they would have already been so.

If your under 50 (mostly). Who do you think spends the most money? I'll give you a hint: it's not who digital caters to the most. That saying, it still hasn't stopped many newspapers and magazines from shutting down and going digital only. But the over 50 demo (mostly) is why they still exist.

Well i remember we had newsagents all over the place selling walls of magazines and papers. Most have gone out of business and those that still are around have dramatically destocked.

Likewise, DVD sellers (whether specialised stores or department stores) used to be packed with people browsing and buying just 5 or 6 years back. Nowadays seem to be ghost towns.
