Keep it light, serious and emotional are usually killers, end the person making usually end up becoming a joke of the night.

Exactly, save something poignant for the last two sentences. Keep it fun before. I've done it twice. Don't Mosby it.

Jokes bomb. They didn't ask you to do it because you're funny. They want a few quips, but a thoughtful speech.

Don't Thegun it.

Post Re: Bachelorette party
I support Chippy.

I mean lets face the reality. Most people try to be extra funny at such weddings (with funny games, speeches etc.) and normally it fucking sucks because you can feel exactly that they have never been really funny and that weeding is the first day they try it or do such things.

If you are really a funny guy and got that feedback a lot in your life.....maybe give it try.

Otherwise you are better off with a "lame" normal speak.

But here is one I give you for free.....

XXXX asked me to make the speech today and he said if I am doing well I can also do the speech on his next weeding

and maybe that is the stuff you should not do.

Mine was thoughtful, I'm not saying do a stand up routine. I guess it comes down to the person that you are. When I'm honest and truthful, I in general have no problem talking in public, or making jokes on the spot. In one of my cases, I co best maned, and I wrote a poem for the two of us, and it killed. I'm just saying, the shorter, and more succinct you can make it. It is absolute torture watching someone get emotional or ramble on.

The wedding is tomorrow and I am nervous as fuck, lol. I already have the rings at my place and I have to think of all the comedies, where the best man loses the rings the night before the wedding.

Do you have a pet duck? It might eat them.

No pets at my place. I just need to hold on to them for 13 more hours.

Oh and wanna hear a funny story. because of some late announcements and the shuffle in seating arrangements, I will be sitting next to my ex at a table, where we know no one else. Isn't this amazing?

then better start to think of a good answer when the
"are you married or in a relationship" questions comes......
Because that is normally that kind of shit people ask each other when they are with strangers on a table during a weeding.

I am not worried about the strangers since they I won't see them again anyway. It's rather the awkwardness of about 8-10 people who know what's up.

Post Re: The wedding
What a day... The bride is really one of my best friends, almost like a sister to me. It was a more emotional experience for me than I expected.

I wrote the speech between 5 am and 6 am the night before the wedding (I had to get up at 9:45). I didn't print it out or have any memory cues ready. I just had to learn it between 6 and 7 before going to bed (where I ended up sleeping for about 90 minutes).

I guess there is no way to put it without appearing to be full of myself, but despite (or maybe because of) this extremely short time to write and learn it, the speech killed. Big time. Often you write something (in my case usually a review) and you know it is just alright. Sometimes, you write something and you just know it is good. I knew the speech was good, but I did not anticipate it to have such an impact. It made the guests laugh and then it brought the bride and the groom to tears. The response lasted for the rest of the night and was pretty overwhelming, especially for a 4 minutes speech.

That aside, it was awkward to spend the whole night on my ex' side, even though we talked and laughed a lot. Not sure it was a good idea to agree for her to come.
