Your Name. will definitely pass both Avatar and Ponyo to reach at least #9, and unless it begins to experience significant drops, it'll also surpass Bayside Shakedown: Save the Rainbow Bridge! and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets to reach the #7 spot.
Then depending on how much it's earning at that point, it could challenge Princess Mononoke and Howl's Moving Castle, and maybe Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone as well, to reach the #4 spot. All of this is still a long ways away, so we'll see if it has any chance of going any higher when/if it gets there.

Anywhere in the Top 10 is sensational, but it looks to get even further. Anything more is a bonus. Very exciting, though.

Alright, so Your Name. will likely exceed 12 million admissions, climbing to at least the #14 spot on the list. There's a good chance it'll reach over 13 million admissions as well, so reaching the #9 spot looks fairly safe at this point, too. If I had to make a projection, I think it'll finish around 14 million admissions to reach the #7/#8 spot on the chart.
Achieving a top 5 position on this chart is a lot harder than doing so on the revenue chart, but let's wait and see if it becomes possible in the weeks/months ahead.

WK4This Saturday is a 1st of the month, meaning tickets will be discounted (40% off) nationwide. The 1st of the month only occurs over the weekend just a couple times a year (the last time was back in May), and the box office benefits greatly when it does.
>Your Name. will be aiming for an increase, and based on pre-sales, an increase is very likely for a sixth weekend possibly above ¥900 million. If it breaks ¥900 million over the weekend, it'll earn the 2nd biggest sixth-weekend ever, behind only Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone's ¥984 million. Its six-week total will also easily exceed ¥12 billion and end up quite close to ¥13 billion ($125-130 million), becoming only the third film to reach either mark after six weeks in release, trailing only Spirited Away and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.
>Scoop! will be the top opener over the weekend, but it appears to be struggling a bit and might have to settle for bronze, or worse, unless it ends up being an evening/night business film. As of this moment, I don't think it's going to reach ¥200 million ($2 million), which would be disappointing.
>The Angry Birds Movie will debut less than I was anticipating going into the weekend, and while it should have a reasonable strong Sunday since it's likely to skew very young, ticket sales so far are very poor and making the Top 5 is going to be a challenge. It's not surprising if this one does disappoint though - almost every non-Dixney/Pixar, and recently Illumination, imported animated film disappoints in the market.
>As for the holdovers, look for potential weekend increases, or incredibly strong holds (Sub-10%) for A Silent Voice, Rage, and Shin Godzilla. Along with Your Name., these three films are benefiting the most so far from the 1st of the month.

Re: Japan Box Office: Your Name Breaks $125m; Aiming For $20
So it means that this weekend your name will definitely passed TFA's gross, as well as passing the lowest of the Miyazaki's 5 top movies (TWR), both gross and admissions. Great!

It passed Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Wednesday in revenue, and has sold more tickets than it for over a week now. After Sunday, it'll either be the 15th or 16th biggest film of all-time in revenue and 17th in admissions, coming off of either the second or third biggest sixth weekend ever.

Re: Japan Box Office: Your Name Breaks $125m; Aiming For $20
With how many weekend records Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone holds it is surprising to me that it didn't end up cracking $200m+... did it just fall off pretty hard after the holidays?

More or less, yeah. Once it reached mid-January, post-New Year, it began to experience harsher drops of 30/40%+; weekday business witnessed a bigger decline as a result, too.

Re: Japan Box Office: Your Name Breaks $125m; Aiming For $20
Weekend Estimates will be posted shortly.
Your Name., A Silent Voice, and Shin Godzilla all enjoyed admission increases over last weekend thanks to the 1st of the month (a discount day) falling on Saturday, but not high enough for me to declare one or all of them managed revenue increases as well. It comes down to how low the 1st decreases the avg. ticket prices for the weekend.
For reference, films that skew very young (10 or under) or very old (50 or over) are affected the least by discount days (ticket prices are already discounted heavily for them); films that skew toward teens are somewhat affected (regular discounts are varied); films that skew toward adults (20-50) are affected the most (that age group receives the least regular discounts).

(C) 2016「君の名は。」製作委員会Weekend Estimates (10/01-02)01 (01) ¥830,000,000 ($8.2 million), -04%, ¥12,775,000,000 ($124.8 million), Your Name. WK4This Saturday was the 1st of the month, meaning ticket prices were discounted by 40% off nationwide. That means that weekend admissions were robust (a few films managed increases over last weekend), but this also lowers the average ticket prices making the % changes in revenue much different than the % change in admissions indicates.
Generally, films that skew toward children or seniors are only affected by 1-3%; films that skew toward teens are affected by 4-7%; films that skew toward adults are affected by 8-10%+.
As a result of the discount day, Your Name., A Silent Voice, and Shin Godzilla enjoyed admission increases over last weekend, +4%, +1%, and +2%, respectively. So, I don't believe any of them managed to experience weekend increases in revenue, but should enjoy single digit declines.
>According to my estimates, Your Name. should achieve both the third biggest sixth-weekend of all-time and the third highest six-week total of all-time; trailing both Spirited Away and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in each category. In its sixth weekend, it reached about 43% capacity over the weekend (up 2% versus last weekend).
>Scoop! debuts within expectations.
>The Angry Birds Movie wasn't expected to do well, but I believe this is a lot lower than expected given Toho-Towa gave it quite the wide release. Its disappointing performance is just going to make it even harder for non-Disney/Pixar/Illumination imported animated films to find distributors in the market.

Well, it is just unlucky for The Angry Birds Movie to be released at a time when one of the biggest films in Japanese history is out.

WK4>Your Name. claims its sixth-consecutive week atop the box office, enjoying a 2% increase over last weekend's ticket sales, selling 650,000 admissions thanks to Saturday being a discount day this weekend. However, since Saturday was a discount day, it ended up dropping in its sixth weekend despite the admissions increase due to the low avg. ticket price.
Makoto Shinkai's uber-blockbuster breakout has now sold 9,893,947 admissions after six weeks in release, making it the 17th most-attended film of all-time, and 6th most-attended animated film of all-time. It likely broke 10 million admissions on Monday, so I expect an announcement to come later today. And its six-week total boosts it up the all-time revenue chart as well, making it the 15th highest-grossing film of all-time, and 6th highest-grossing animated film of all-time.
>Sully held strong in its second weekend and with a two-week total of almost ¥700 million, it's likely to exceed the ¥1.5 billion ($15 million) mark, giving Eastwood and Hanks yet another successful film in the market.
>Scoop! debuts on the low-end of expectations, selling a decent 127,542 admissions across 248 screens over the weekend. This film should have been a ¥1 billion ($10 million) earner, and while it could still reach the milestone, it's going to be an uphill challenge.
>Shin Godzilla is still hanging in there, rising two spots top rank seventh place in its tenth week of release. After ten weeks, it has sold over 5.2 million admissions, now making it the most-attended film on the franchise since 1964.
>The Angry Birds Movie actually missed the Top 10... It managed a Top 10 debut (10th) in terms of admissions, selling 57,355 tickets across 338 screens, but its avg. ticket price was so low (¥1,101) that it couldn't break into the Top 10 in gross. It earned ¥63,193,500 ($624,000) over the weekend.

Why is Shin Godzilla such a resounding success?

Dr. Lecter wrote: Why is Shin Godzilla such a resounding success? Being the first Toho Godzilla film since 2004 probably helps. Plus it's a good film that introduces some interesting ideas.

Re: Japan Box Office: Your Name Breaks $125m; Aiming For $20
>Toho's first Godzilla in 12 years. >Excellent reviews >Excellent WOM (key factor) >Director Hideaki Anno (Evangelion) is well-known. >Prime release date
There was a degree of uncertainty among audiences when it opened, debuting only a fair 23% higher than Hollywood's 2014 film. However, once the stellar reviews came in, and more importantly, when audiences began spreading the word of how it's finally the reboot of Godzilla that they've been waiting several decades for... you can see the result in its incredible box office returns.
It's already exceeded a multiplier of 12, and still has a decent amount left in the tank, too. It should finish with a multiplier of 12.6/12.7 when it leaves theaters - not the overall best legs of the year, but easily the highest of any live-action film this year, and incredible regardless.
