Hey, I know I'm pretty awesome, but I'm no God! And wait, you said "Bye". So it appears you were lying when you said you were getting tired of this.

Why bother? I saw Independence Day: Resurgence as part of a weekend trip to visit stuffp. I certainly thought it was shit, but he really wanted to see it, and when we meet up we like to watch movies and discuss them. It would have been awfully rude of me to refuse to see the only big Hollywood film in release at the time. What's your excuse? Cool. The first is one of the best popcorn flicks ever made, so I thought that if this had even an ounce on the original's charm it'd be in good shape. And it looked entertaining enough. And Goldblum. I was very wrong.

 Re: Independence Day: Resurgence
I thought what this film did mainly right was to make it pretty entertaining still. I feel disappointed by the final product, and surely a huge letdown from the original, which I love. But I was still entertained, and I enjoyed all the previous character re-visits. It's the new cast that's pretty much a total misfit and the script is wrong and the score is bad, but the nostalgia factor keeps this still somewhat enjoyable for me.

I feel this is a sentence or two away from "I like Emmerich's old stuff, not so much his new stuff".

 Re: Independence Day: Resurgence
Emmerich has never been a director I particular favor, but he's made some good films. He's kind of a poor man's Michael Bay (who's also made some bad films btw, but I favor a lot more as a director).

 Re: Independence Day: Resurgence
Emmerich has made two fantastic films. The rest are a mixed bag.

To come back with this POS after 20 years is just mind boggling.

 Re: Independence Day: Resurgence
It's extremely forgettable. I saw this about 2 years ago and it feels more like 20, whereas I saw the original movie 20 years ago and it's as fresh in my mind as something from 2 years ago.
This also feels like some fan-made tribute to the original that someone would put on youtube; a string of several lame fan service / ineffective nostalgia moments followed by seemingly 5 hours of random destruction, with the cgi being worse than in the 90s movie.
The only positive aspect of this could have been Goldblum, however, it doesn't even feel like it's Goldblum playing the character, but Goldblum playing Goldblum playing the character. Like a parody of sorts or some SNL sketch.
