Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Quote:
Ferris Bueller's Day Off is a 1986 American teen coming-of-age comedy film written and directed by John Hughes. It stars Matthew Broderick, Alan Ruck, Mia Sara, Jeffrey Jones and Jennifer Grey.

The film follows high school senior Ferris Bueller, who decides to skip school and spend the day in downtown Chicago. Accompanied by his girlfriend Sloane Peterson and his best friend Cameron Frye, he creatively avoids his school's Dean of Students Edward Rooney, his resentful sister Jeanie, and his parents. During the film, Broderick occasionally breaks the fourth wall by speaking directly to the camera to explain to the audience his character's techniques and thoughts.

Hughes wrote the screenplay in less than a week and shot the film – on a budget of $6 million – over several months in late 1985. Featuring many famous Chicago landmarks including the Willis Tower and the Art Institute of Chicago, the film was Hughes' love letter to the city: "I really wanted to capture as much of Chicago as I could. Not just in the architecture and landscape, but the spirit."

Released by Paramount Pictures on June 11, 1986, Ferris Bueller's Day Off became one of the top grossing films of the year and was enthusiastically received by critics and audiences alike.

Unfortunately, comedies like Ferris Bueller's Day Off don't come around anymore. Classic. A

Probably my all-time favorite movie about a teenager (or group of them). Yup, even more than Clueless.

A very high A.

Saw this when it came out, and it has remained one of my all time favorites ever since. I don't know if I've ever laughed as hard as I did like I laughed when Jeanie kicks Rooney in the face over and over.

A+

Fantastic film.

I think it's safe to say that that would have been our guilty desire as teenagers, those of us who no longer are.

Bueller? Bueller?

Go buy it! It's like $7 now.

Judging by the fact that only a few have commented on this movie (and if you noticed, everybody is in strong agreement about how highly they regard it) I'd say there are quite a few of you who have never seen it, and you seriously need to rent this. You definitely won't be sorry that you did.

Ferris Bueller's day Off was John Hughes last great teen film and what a way to go out. FBDO is and will always be a classic of cinema. I don't think it will age, I don't think it will be lost on different generations, and I don't think it will ever lose it's lustre. It is one of the all time classic Hollywood films and it is quintessential viewing for anyone who wants to know how to skip school and what to do on your time off.

10/10

I definitely figured that you'd like it, and I agree, it's timeless. It plays as well today as it did back in the 80's, and I don't think it will ever lose that quality.

You didn't like them, I'm guessing. Heh.

I can understand Closer, because that's a *very* love it or hate it type.

You didn't like Garden State, though? Ew.

No, they both scored really high with me, actually.

Great movie. I love the Chicago scene... on the float. I think that's how I first discovered my fetish with musicals and, ultimately, my homosexual tendencies :shades:

Or not. Lecter, go rent this. It's one of the best movies of the 80s.

Man, it's really sad that I still haven't seen this. I am waiting for a good new DVD edition to come out in Germany and I'll give it a blind-buy.

One of the greatest comedies of all-time. Very charming, witty, and often hilarious. Simple premise but executed fantastically. Career-defining performances by most of the cast. Memorable characters and great dialogue. One of my favourites.
