I'll see if I could find a transcript, but you should check out the video if there is one, maybe watching the replay from ESPN3.

Re: The Tennis Thread - Australian Open '11
The Li match with Woz was absolutely fantastic. There were lots of heavy long rallies and baseline play. Sh also has decent records against Kim or Vera and I'll be rooting for her in the final.
I'll be rooting for Fed too. I'm not interested in stick Murray or Ferrer.

What I like about her is she's a it of a character too so all the more fun to watch her play. Unfortunately Fed is out. Cant say I care much for the remaining three.

Damn, Djokovic kicked Murray's ass. Seems like this could be the year Djokovic makes a leap of sorts. At the least he could be the best hardcourt player for the next few years

Re: The Tennis Thread - Australian Open '11
Well, Clijsters has a definite shot at the Grand Slam with her history at the the FO and USO. I would think Serena would be back by Wimby so I think that's her weakest element.
Djokovic did kick Murray's behind. I think I heard that Murray has not won a set in his GS finals so far. That's a bit embarassing. I would think he'll win at least 1 slam. I mean, if Del Potro can that Murray's got to be able to. However, I'm not a big fan of his since he's pretty whiny on the court. He can get angry but it's not fun anger or motivating to the viewer anger.

Re: The Tennis Thread - Australian Open '11
And Nadal's clay court streak ends at 37. Time to start a new one. Great for Djokovic and the game that Nadal lost. Maybe now, people won't think of Nadal = loss on clay.
What is up with Verdasco/Raonic meeting again for the fourth time in like 3 months? Weird. Oh, and by the way, real tennis won over fake tennis.

Djokovic beating Nadal twice in a row on clay, both in straight sets... is epic.

Even though she lost her cool in the AO final, I'm still cheering for her. Go Li Na!

Saturday Afternoon, Sunday and Monday look stormy. I hope they can get the matches completed during their scheduled times but its not looking likely.
I will be happy no matter who wins tomorrow's final. I just hope it is of good quality.

FED/Novak match was one of the best I have seen in a long time. Both players were playing at such a high level. Its been ages since I have seen Fed play this well. If he can maintain this in final, he can dethrone Nadal.

Re: The Tennis Thread - French Open '11
Congratulations to Na, she played exceptionally well for most of the match. The match was always on her racquet. Hitting 20+ winners in a 2 set match on clay is most impressive.
Hopefully the mens final is played at an equally high level. By both players.

Re: The Tennis Thread - French Open '11
Federer fought hard, and blowing the first set definitely hurts big time, but it just wears on you when shots that would've been winners against almost any other players were not only saved, but returned with top spin and all kinds of movement. Nadal's ability to cover the court and turn defense into offense is simply unmatched.

Re: The Tennis Thread - French Open '11
Federer's record is in trouble. 6 more for Nadal is nothing considering he might win 4-7 more French Opens for all we know.
I think the rest of this year is important for Fed keeping his GOAT status. If Nadal has 2 straight 3x majors/French-Wimbledon-US Open years and puts a 4 in a row in play again... then it's in trouble. I still think Fed's #1s streak, consecutive conference Finals/Finals streaks, overall W/L records in his big years, and 3x/3 majors years put him over Nadal even if the latter catches his overall majors. Nadal's overall majors record won't be *as* amazing to me if it's like 10x French Open, 4x Wimbledon, 2x Australian, 2x US Open. He'll just be by far the best French Open player ever. I think what Nadal needs to take him down is a 4 majors, 5 majors in a row type run.

Re: The Tennis Thread - French Open '11
Clinic by Nadal. Only reason he lost the 3rd Set was because he wasn't hitting it deep enough. When Federer is inside the baseline, he's deadly.

Re: The Tennis Thread - French Open '11
Congratulations for Li Na winning the French. She's having an amazing year. On a side note, I'm still pissed that Serena has missed 3 majors due to broken glass on a restaurants floor. Pretty sick.
Gratz to Nadal for his win. Can't believe he's at 10 majors now. It's insane that he and Fed have 26 majors between them. Right now Fed is still the Goat but if nadal continues to triumph at Wimbledon and the us open he will certainly have an argument.
