King Kong has amazing special effects, much better than Narnia for sure. But its completely bloated at 3 hours, it has about enough plot for a half hour of movie.
Not to say that Narnia isn't bloated too. I directed a play version of it recently that hit all the story beats and was only 80 minutes long.

Narnia is overrated (PC is much better) KK is right where it should be. Though I can at least say its better than the last two Godzilla films.

TLTWTW isn't that highly rated in the first place, so I don't know what you're getting at. PC is also not better in any way. There is a reason that TLTWTW is a classic work of literature and no one has ever read the others in the series. The movie vastly improved on the relatively weak Prince Caspian novel, but TLTWTW is still miles ahead.

The so called "every other Narnia thing sucks after the first" is where I'm coming from. They're all pretty much in the same territory on film. I personally think the sequels are much better. You're right when you say the first is way too kiddie, and the Jesus references, holy crap!
