It's a bizarre thing to make up, especially with how specific it is. Disney would also more aggressively quash it if it were false, I feel like.

Re: STAR WARS : ROGUE ONE Predictions December 16th 2016
I don't really see this being MAAAASSSIVE. Force Awakens brought people out into the cinema who hadn't gone in decades because it was the sequel to the original trilogy everybody had wanted to see for 32 years.
Rogue One has the 'Star Wars' name, but it has zero identifiable characters (which Star Wars's entire brand is built on), and is coming very soon after Force Awakens. Matrix and Pirates taught us that releasing another film in a series quickly after a highly anticipated sequel usually results in significantly smaller grosses.
I foresee a $130m-$150m OW in the States and $350m+ gross anyway just because it's Star Wars-related.

4 weeks of reshoots not nothing. But this will do well. If anything it hurts Ep 8 no matter what. Though to be fair it was alway going to be the lowest of the trilogy. The director of this sucks though and the trailer wasn't even close to SW levels. If this does over 300 it's a win in my book.

That big of an OW will surely result in a better multiplier given its holidays.

The Phantom Menace didn't really have recognizable characters. They were pretty much all new. The ones that did return looked/acted completely different (Anakin, C-3PO).

Obi-Wan Kenobi. Young Darth Vader. C-3PO. R2-D2. Yoda. Plus the film's story was identifiable as it linked to Episode IV-VI.

Prequel vs spin-off. TPM came as the next wave of SW movies. RO already had SW7 last year and that's a BIG shredding of audience. Many die-hards that would have watched SW7 5-7 times would go down to 4-5 times this time depending on the quality of the movie and the casual audience might not catch this as well.

Less of the casual audience will go this time surely just because it will be less of an event. But I think it will still be huge among fans and the casual audience will still want to know what's going on with the franchise to be in on the conversation.

But TPM level on anticipation I don't think so. It won't be close to TPM's admissions.

I hardly see anyone saying that it won't do $400m but this and TPM are no where in comparison in terms of well anything.

Never once did I say anywhere it would gross 750 million.

You guys are just painful to listen to. I had the end all argument to this years ago but now I am meh. This isn't even worth a quote that kill both points, they're both just stupid.

Don't forget that without Gareth Edwards, Godzilla wouldn't have made $200 million (it would have made a lot more).

Godzilla 2014 also had a stunning marketing campaign.

Fortunately the majority of the film is fine, they only need to reshoot 40% of it.

The other 60% are the title crawl and the end credits.

Re: STAR WARS : ROGUE ONE Predictions December 16th 2016
Whenever anything (except Pixar I guess, because they intentionally maintained creative autonomy, and even then we got Cars 2) gets sold to Disney, it becomes a dumbed down TV movie-esque product. Anyone who understood what happened to Marvel should have seen this coming. As far as I'm concerned everything post ROTS is fanfiction. Lucas is Star Wars and that won't ever change. Quote: Gifted filmmakers typically make movies that feel distinctly their own. When those movies need to live in the same universe, that's not an asset: it's a fissure. This is ridiculous and such a myopic, dreary view of filmmaking. Directors coming in and leaving their own mark worked wonderfully for Harry Potter, it kept the franchise fresh and the stylistic and tonal changes worked in tandem with the kids growing up and the escalating seriousness of the story. It would work in Star Wars too, considering Rogue One is supposed to take place at a very separate time in the Star Wars universe, where there are no Jedi and therefore no signifiers of the old, 'Force'-related order and its related films.
