Post Good memory?
I just wanted to ask you how good your memory is...

Why did I make this thread? Well, mostly because right now, I feel so blessed with good memory as I have to learn texts worth of overall 7,000+ words for my upcoming State Exam BY HEART. Yeah, fun... I don't know what I'd do if my memory failed me.

Well, the thing about me is that I think mine is great. I can look over notes for school, and still... umm... what was the question? I forgot.

Mym memory is random. I've never had to study for a test in my life (except a five minute cram session for a German vocab quiz or something), I also have a stunningly good long-term memory, with my earliest emmory branching back to my first or second birthday. My short-term memory is pretty bad, though.

I wish I had a photographic memory. That would rock pwoer hard.

I have the worst memory in the world. I have perfect memory for stupid things that will never help me out in my life.

Heh.

I've got an all around good memory, but I wish I could remember the important as much as I did the trivial. Hell, I used to remember the number of minutes in certain movies and what year they came out. But, when it came to conjugating Spanish verbs...no luck.

You just had a rusty moment! It feels nice, eh?!

But I have awesome short term memory but really bad long term memory. Short term as in I don't have to study for any tests because I can remember it from the start of the semester. I got bad long term memory as in I don't remember much from the 7th grade or even the 8th. And I was high most of the time during the ninth so that was self produced forgetfullness.

Okay here is how it works...

I hate my head. I can memorize TONS AND TONS of facts. So like, im in High School right? I read a text book, then don't study for the test on that same subject. All I have to do is read it once..and I get perfect scores on test.

But my short-term memory is HORRIBLE. Tell me to do something, and 1 minute later Ill forget. Or Im about to call someone, then Im holding the phone, and I forget who Im gonna call....

I think its caused I smoked alot of uhmm..grass? ....but I quit. I am no longer a stoner...I SWEAR!

So you've upgraded to Whitney. Torrino was a little too bland for ya?

I'm not the massive Pink Floyd fan, rusty...

I don't idolize Jimi Hendrix, either.

However, if someone who doesn't smoke automatically makes 1000's of grammatical mistakes, I guess I am the stoner between the two of us.

Funny, I was just reading about memory for my psychology exam :???:

According to memory researcher Daniel Schacter, there are seven ways our memories fail us -- the so-called Seven Sins of Memory.

Three Sins of Forgetting

Absent Mindedness: inattention to details produces encoding failure (our minds are elsewhere when we place our car keys on the table).

Transience: storage decay over time (we forget about unused information).

Blocking: inaccessability of stored information (when something's on the tip of your tongue, but you just can't get it out -- caused by a failure in retrieval).

Three Sins of Distortion

Misattribution: confusing the source of information (remembering what someone said, but putting the words in somebody else's mouth or thinking that something you saw in a movie actually happened on the news).

Suggestibility: the lingering effect of misinformation (a leading question -- say, "Did Michael Jackson touch your crotch?" -- can later become a child's false memory).

Bias: belief-coloured distortions (some guy's current feelings towards his girl friend may colour, or distort, their recalled initial feelings; in other words, he's more likely to think nice things of their initial meeting if he currently likes her).

One Sin of Intrusion

Persistence: unwanted memories (being haunted of images of sexual assault).

This is really interesting stuff if you're into psychology. To learn more, you can pick up the seventh edition of David G. Myers' Psychology, or visit the web-site at http://www.worthpublishers.com/myers/.

When it comes to longterm stuff like my childhood my memory is awesome, but short stuff like phone numbers, and addresses. I always have to write them down. My memory sucks when it comes to those kinds of things.

If it did in your case, you'd not even remember your own name...
