Maze Runner: The Death Cure predictions
The Scorch Trials' domestic performance is really mediocre at best and from what I gather, WoM is not great either. The sequel opens on 2/17/2017 which is the Presidents Day weekend.
Even with good marketing I'm thinking a $32 million 4-day opening and a $65-70 million total.

I do.
Should open with over $35 mil, finish with more than $75 mil.

Re: Maze Runner: The Death Cure predictions
Scorch Trials seems like the usual sophomore slump seen in many trilogies. This should open in the high 30's.

Re: Maze Runner: The Death Cure predictions
I think the finale factor (hope they will push this that way) might add to some curiosity so this might be the biggest opener of the series though I don't think the legs will be as good as the first so $37m with $90m total.

Re: Maze Runner: The Death Cure predictions
Well, after Allegiant, I wonder how badly this can do.
On the upside, fans won't feel cheated because there is no split in two films. But that aside...a longer-than-usual wait could ensure that any remaining interest in the franchise vanishes. The first sequel didn't do too hot.
We could be looking at $25 million (4-day) and a $50 million total. It will do well overseas, though.

It will probably be the lowest grossing but should do fine. These movies are more well-liked than Divergent anyway.

I'm still interested in seeing it.
I agree with the 65-70 total.

Re: Maze Runner: The Death Cure predictions
Scorch Trials was better than any Divergent movie (even the one yet to come). It was still a step down from the original.
This is in for a decrease hopefully stays above $30m OW and gets close to Scorch Trials total.

Re: Maze Runner: The Death Cure predictions
I'm still surprised Scorch Trials didn't open to 35+.
I think this last one will do less than high 60s/low 70s.

So hopefully that means people will forget even more than they normally would and it will completely bomb. The thing with these YA franchises is keeping momentum, and this has now died.

It died when the studio failed to maintain any momentum between releases. From 1 to 2 there was nothing, and from 2 to the next one, well, it's the nail in the coffin.
