Agnes Jaoui's "LOOK AT ME" (strong second weekend)
It won Best Screenplay Award at 2004 Cannes Film Festival.
I saw the trailer when I was watching "Up and Down", and it impressed me.
The trailer is online now.

It seems like another good Frence crowd-pleaser. (Like "Amelie", "The Closet".)
With smart marketing, this movie could gross more than $6 million in US?

This movie has good opening.
With great reviews, this PG-13 crowd-pleaser should gross more than $2 million in US. (Sony Pictures Classics paid about $500,000 to acquire the North American distribution rights .)

Quote: Agnes Jaoui's "Look at Me" debuted on six screens over the weekend, eyeing the specialty box office summit with a solid $11,598 per screen average from a $69,587 gross. "It's a great opening," commented Sony Classics co-president to indieWIRE yesterday who added that the film performed well in both its New York and Los Angeles engagements.
"We're very happy, and the word-of-mouth is strong for this picture. [We have] three or four-star reviews." Barker said the film's opening weekend attracted an educated audience with a broad age range. "College graduates of all ages came to see the film. People were drawn to ['Look at Me'] because [director] Agnes Jaoui is a real talent." Additionally, he also credited the film's opening on the word-of-mouth generated from being the opening night film at last October's New York Film Festival. Sony Classics will open the film in "all major cities" across the United States in the next several weeks.
BTW, I would see this movie on Friday. Expect my small report.

Looked it up at rt, it seems to be pretty well received here. I saw the trailer for it before Steamboy and thought it could be interesting, though not apparently the "crowd-pleaser" it was. It looked far more dramatic to me than light, but it might have just been the trailer.
rt synopsis:
Quote: This is the story of Lolita Cassard, a young woman of twenty years who has it in for the entire world because she doesn't look like the girls in glossy magazines, who doesn't look a thing like her young mother-in-law, and who would so much like to feel beautiful, at least in her father's eyes, if only her father's eyes could find her. But this is also the story of a man named Etienne Cassard, who doesn't see other people much at all because he's busy looking at himself, feeling older, a man who very likely wanted for love himself, who struggled long and hard to find his place in the world. This is the story of a writer named Pierre Miller, who's lost faith, who doubts he'll ever meet with success, who meets with success and who meets Etienne Cassard. This is the story of a singing teacher, Sylvia Miller, who believes in her husband, at least in his talent, but who has doubts about her own and that of her pupil, Lolita - until she realizes she's the daughter of Etienne Cassard, the author she admires so much. This is the story of human beings who know exactly what they'd do if they were somebody else, but can't handle being themselves very well, who are very simply struggling to find out who they are. -- © Sony Pictures Classics

This was a great movie. Funny, touching and very true. I liked "The taste of others" but enjoyed "look at me" much more...
I´d definitely recommend it to everyone who is not sure about watching it. More than whorty. If not, you know where to find me.

Yes. It is a very good French comedy. In some ways, I think that it is "explosive".
"LOOK AT ME" is a very appropriate title for this movie.
I watched this movie at this morning. The screening only had under 10 people. But after the screening, they kept talking about how great the movie is.
I just become the member of Agnes Jaoui's fans club. She not only made a good movie, but also became the most likeable character of the movie.
I will try to watch "The taste of others" as soon as I can.

In second weekend, it grossed about $114,602 from 16 theaters.
This Sony Pictures Classics' $500,000 acquisition would gross more than $2.5 million in US.

The company's other recent release, "Look at Me" by Agnes Jaoui, meanwhile, placed third on the chart, after adding ten engagements. "Look" grossed $114,602 on 16 screens, averaging $7,163. Last week, the feature was number one on the chart with an $11,598 average (a 38% decline) from six screens. The film's second week performance provided an affirmation of hope by Barker about the viability of European work outside the mainstream.
"'Look at Me' is proof that there's still an audience for a sophisticated European film," Barker said, adding he continues to believe that this time of year is a strategically good one to release specialty films, echoing comments he made last year in this column. "It's a great time because you're between the major Christmas and summer season," said Barker. "Being right in the middle of it, you have a longer play time because the competition isn't as brutal."
