 Re: Contenders 2016
Not that it was ever a serious contender due to calendar issues but THR is framing Hail, Caesar as a flop, "the lowest nationwide start of the duo's directing career." http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/b ... lms-862324

As always, everything of note is a contender until, you know, it isn't. In this case, by virtue of their multiple Academy Award nominations and wins, The Coens get on the list. Whatever they release next, surprise, will also be on the list. It's not up to me to dictate what is and isn't a contender. I'm only providing the information. You have a really interesting internet persona.

I think Algren expects every film you mentioned in the first post to be nominated.
Algren also doesn't know how anything works.

 Re: Contenders 2016
Will Silence screen at Berlin next month? Scorsese aside, Silence doesn't strike me as a BP winner but we'll see. I would love for Liam Neeson to get some well-deserved award attention.

 Re: Contenders 2016
Keira Knightley joins Will Smith's Collateral Beauty. I suppose that doesn't really change its Oscar chances either way.

Between this and Midnight Special's great reviews out of Berlin, Jeff Nichols should have a big year.

 Re: Contenders 2016
So after BAFTA... The Revenant is now the frontrunner and even though Winslet's win over Vikander was for Ex Machina, I think she has as good a chance to win. Nobody should want to give The Danish Girl an Oscar that much and if Winslet wins they get to do the DiCaprio thing with her
Stallone will probably win but even though he got no precursors can Tom Hardy shock the world? He's in the right film and he hasn't lost anywhere since The Revenant started rolling

Can we please start the campaign to get John Goodman nominated for 10 Cloverfield Lane? http://variety.com/2016/film/in-content ... 201726923/

 Re: Contenders 2016
A Mad Max sequel was the most critically praised movie of 2015. Nothing is impossible.

Goodman was brilliant in it, I hope it happens. Would he be considered supporting though?

 Re: Contenders 2016
For Best Animated movie this year, could there be no independent animation nominated? Look at the lineup this year.
Right now I'd predict
Zootopia Finding Dory Secret Life of Pets Kubo and the Two Strings (new trailer is great again) Moana Sing
It's hard to imagine any of those not being nominated, and yet at least one of them won't be.

Zootopia is a lock, Finding Dory could of course go the way of Monsters University...

Well, the trailers so far don't give much hope for it being great.
