 Who can ski?
I went skiing for the first time yesterday in North China on a ski slope. It was pretty great. Had a lot of fun, but it takes a bit of getting used to. It's completely unnatural at first. Though I am interested to try it again whenever I can. Might take another 30 years at this rate! I'd love to ski in a picturesque place like Austria or Italy - I imagine that'd be fucking awesome. And imagine the photos!
I have a newfound respect for skiers. They make it look so effortless!

 Re: Who can ski?
I cannot. My girlfriend is off skiing with her family in Switzerland right now, but I have little interest in learning that. Not a fan of mountains either.

I suppose you don't get much time for skiing anyway.

 Re: Who can ski?
Can't. The one time I tried was at a friend's birthday party when I was five or something. I went backwards down a small hill...that was enough for me.

 Re: Who can ski?
Love to ski, but haven't done so for 10 years. Last time was in Sweden which is similar to like in North China I think. In my teens I went skiing with friends in Austria (once) and a few other times in Switserland. Some of the best times of my life.

I never thought of you as someone that skis or likes skiing. Cool that you are, though. If we get the chance to go together at any time, you can coach me!

 Re: Who can ski?
I tried skiing once, but the heavy boots bruised my shins and I spent the whole day in lessons because they hurt so bad.

 Re: Who can ski?
I love skiing. Though I haven't skied since I was 12 or so. Which is a looooong time ago. But I doubt I forgot how to.

 Re: Who can ski?
I used to ski and snowboard a lot. Last time I went the conditions were pretty bad and ended up tearing my rotator cuff.
I'm interested to know if in China they use the "French fries" or "pizza slice" school of skiing. As in to go, keep them straight looking like fries, and to stop, angle the front of your skies towards each looking like a slice of pizza.

 Re: Who can ski?
I used to ski almost every winter from middle school all the way to freshman year in college, but the last time I skied is over 15 years ago. I really love it and miss it, and I hope to convince taking my wife skiing someday (she's never skied growing up in Texas). I've skied in Japan, Tahoe, and upstate NY. I bet skiing in the alps would be amazing!

I've only snowboarded. Quite the workout, but I love it.

 Re: Who can ski?
Snowboarding is so much easier. It's not that dissimilar to skateboarding. But skiing is a whole new coordination.

My wife got a coach for a while. I prefer to learn myself from my mistakes, so I just did what I saw on the TV. I stopped by turning sideways. Such a lot of fun.

Never had a problem picking up snowboarding but I could never skateboard for shit. I can surf decent. I think there is no real correlation, but I think a lot think the three are almost interchangeable. I think skiing is a hell of s lot easier than snowboarding unless you lose control. Snowboarders will just fall back, but if a skier keeps it steady you'll be hitting black diamonds in a single day.
