 Re: Broadcast Film Critics Nominations
I think it really hurts their legitimacy as an awards group (not that they were held to a high regard before). They could have easily delayed their voting just a few days and TFA could have made it in the same way as any of the other movies. The problem is that all those other films were compared with each other and all other movies this year in order to get nominated. The question of whether to add TFA or not does not allow for such a comparison, and I see this as purely an attempt to get better TV ratings.

 Re: Broadcast Film Critics Nominations
I've never heard anyone say "I look forward to the Broadcast Film Critics winners", so I really don't think it matters what they do. It's the same with all of these critic's awards; the masses don't know or care about them. The only award shows that matter are the Oscars (everyone), the Golden Globes (people bitter at the Oscars), the BAFTAs (Brits), and the MTV Movie Awards (morons).

David wrote: They should have waited to see Star Wars in the first place if it was so important to them. It is embarrassing to revise the nominations later and seems primarily a type of kowtow to the Mouse House. This. I have no problem with them nominating Star Wars, but wait until you have a chance to see the film before releasing your nominations, rather than revising them later like embarrassing flops.

 Re: Broadcast Film Critics Nominations
I thought it might be useful to see how GG compares to BFCA, however I discovered that the Globes used to air AFTER the BFCA so voting trends are hard to nail down. The Globes and Critics Choice have matched their BP and BD picks 4 out of the last 6 races, including the last 3. So I guess a repeat of Sunday is more likely than not, though a Miller win would be awesome!
2014: GG BP/BD Boyhood - CC BP/BD Boyhood 2013 - GG BP 12 Years A Slave/BD Gravity - CC BP 12 Years A Slave/ BD Gravity 2012 - GG BP/BD Argo - CC BP/BD Argo 2011 - GG BP The Artist/BD Hugo - CC BP/BD The Artist 2010 - GG BP/BD The Social Network - CC BP/BD The Social Network 2009 - GG BP/BD Avatar - CC BP/BD The Hurt Locker

 Re: Broadcast Film Critics Nominations
Apparently the voting window was just 24 hours to coincide with Oscar nominations. Quote: January 13, 2016 – Final ballots go out to BFCA/BTJA members
January 14, 2016 – Deadline for returning final ballots They could very well be some pushback on the one-two punch of Revenant's GG wins and 12 Oscar nominations. Or it could be more of the same.

LMAO these people are such hacks. Can't wait to watch the awards on Sunday, I hope they're as much of a disaster as usual.

 Re: Broadcast Film Critics Nominations
I'm going back and forth on what's going to happen tonight. Part of me thinks the whole reason they waited until after the Globes and Oscar nominations is to play bellwether for the race ahead, which would point to The Revenant. But then I also could see them wanted to be tastemakers and going with Spotlight. Not sure where that leaves Mad Max: Fury Road and it's lead nomination count. Maybe the tech and action/scifi categories?

 Re: Broadcast Film Critics Nominations
I think they tend to award critics' favorites. Like when they gave BP to Sideways.

This is his last televised award I think, so he did a great job with the speech when it counted.

He should have acknowledged that he tried to thank Coogler and Jordan at the Globes. For those unfamiliar with that, it felt more like he was obligated to thank them. "Before I get into any more trouble..."

I guess only Costume Design is slightly surprising.
