I played the lottery for the first time ever.
I have never played the lottery before, i never believed i could win it but this time i said fuck it, i know 99.999999% i wont win but for $800 million on a $2 bet with a 1 in 292 million chance to win i say it's very cheap just to have a fantasy.

Re: I played the lottery for the first time ever.
538 estimates that over 420 million tickets will be sold, and that there is a 91% chance that at least one person wins it.
Though I believe your odds are 1 in 292 million.

Re: I played the lottery for the first time ever.
Hoping no one wins it tonight unless it's me I'd love to see our first billion dollar+ payout and if estimates hold it would climb to $1.5 Billion by next Wednesday. With this much money the cash out option would be off the table for me for tonight drawing or the next one I'm not giving up 500 million just to have it all at once.

Re: I played the lottery for the first time ever.
It'd be ridiculous to not play but there are folks who are desperate to keep 2$.
Mmmkay An old lady won because another person let her cut.
Someone is going to be that old lady this time so why not you?

Still a waste of money unless you can somehow see the future.

Re: I played the lottery for the first time ever.
I think the $2 spent for the ticket is worth the loss if you can win $650+ mil take home.

Look. I don't expect to win. But that $2. I'm overdue for some sunshine. But it'll probably be from the hole burnt clean through my pants.

Re: I played the lottery for the first time ever.
Well, the mania is over for now. At least one person hit the numbers in CA.

Re: I played the lottery for the first time ever.
Three tickets have the winning numbers, lucky them. Though I was hoping it would only be one winner.
And I was hoping it would be me.

Your odds of winning are worth less than your ticket. You lose on average. read that again and think about it! Final tax burden goes beyond the take home. Will you invest that money and make a killing before you have to pay income taxes? Also, there was over an 80% chance that you would have to split it. These things are not designed to have you make money. The raw odds don't matter as much (or really at all, except as a measure of risk). What really matters is the 635m tickets that were sold. They take in 1.27 bil. They have to pay less than that even before taxes. And if there is no winner....
