This is mainly to the American contingent; do you all have therapists? It's just that in a lot of TV shows and films there seems to be a common thread that everyone has therapists. It's always "I'm going to see my therapist" or "My therapist said I can't do ______" etc. Is this reminiscent of the average American? or is it just Hollywood writer syndrome?

I don't see it in other countries' TV or films.

Well, I'm sure everyone here knows other people, such as friends and relatives, that could shed some light on my question.

The folks here have analrapists.

I know a lot of people that do AA, maybe 2 in my whole life that ever saw a therapist, that I know about.

I had to see a grief counselor once when there was a shooting at my college.

But I'm not 30 yet, seems like unless it's mandated or by your choice later in life, no one I know has been in therapy for a substantial period of time. And as earlier posted, it apparently costs a lot if you do it by choice. It's not the norm here as far as I know

I've obviously traveled extensively throughout Asia (China, Japan, Vietnam, Laos, South Korea, India, Turkey, Taiwan) and I've found around 9/10 of the white men (I'm assuming you're white) that live in Asia ultimately do so because of racial fetishism, whether it's for subservient women or the prepubescent slender men.

I know it's an enduring meme of sorts in pop culture and I wonder if it's a common thread for you and your experiences in China?

Kind of, yeah. Most of the white men I know in China do have Chinese girls or wives. But I wouldn't say it is because they are subservient. Actually the opposite is the case. The females are the dominant ones, and there's nothing worse than a stroppy Chinese bitch. Most of the guys here just prefer the Asian look (it's prettier) over the Western look. But I would say one thing; I think a lot of the white men that have Asian females as wives or girlfriends are not your traditional good-looking guys - they're scrawny or too pale or weird - in other words, I do not believe they had much of a chance at landing a beauty in the west, so they flew east.

So, what does that say about you?

That's probably true. I think people hiding feelings/emotions and feeling like they can't tell someone/anyone something/anything can take a toll on you as a person. Being able to get emotions out with little to no consequences can be... THERAPEUTIC.

Yep. "Therapists" are frequented in entertainment, often by those who are either compensating or by those who are trying to be "defiant" by their obvious success in the public eye. The latter can become very creepy about it.

And in The U.S., if you are rich, then you are "an Eccentric." But if you are poor, then you are Crazy.

No, most people would probably benefit from someone they can openly talk to. It does not have to be a professional therapist who, if he executes his profession correctly, deals with actual disorders.
