Why the fuck do people want everything answered in the first film? It is part of a trilogy.

On a more interesting subject...

Abrams recently said that he did one or two things that we did not like that much in his film in order for it to fit the plans of Rian Johnson's screenplay for Episode VIII. I wonder what those were...

You think Luke is gonna bite it by the end of the new trilogy?

too many new characters crammed into a new film. how are we supposed to follow. film was overstuffed. two different villains? 3 heroes? sounds like garbage, imo.

I think the main thing was keeping Luke Skywalker out of the movie almost entirely. Rian must be have big plans for him.

He might have also wanted General Hux alive. That guy was begging to die in this movie and it would have been satisfying to see at least one top member of The First Order go down.

It should stand on it's own. They easily could have not included Captain Phasma and Smoke at all. We know nothing at all about the context of everything that goes on.

My rank

1. Star Wars [my #1 film of all times!]
2. Empire Strikes Back [classic]
3. The Force Awakens [the lightsaber moments and it's so pretty to watch, BB8]
4. Return of the Jedi [it's so charming, the ewoks and the music]
5. Revenge of the Sith [the battle sequences and lightsaber fights]
6. Attack of the Clones [Yoda and the soundtrack edges being last]
7. The Phantom Menace [just too much Jar Jar]

'Everyone who has seen these movies thinks about ‘I am your father …’ and ‘There is another …’ But neither of those things were in [1977’s original] Star Wars. Star Wars didn’t say Luke was the son of Vader. Star Wars didn’t say Leia was the sister of Luke. You didn’t understand what these references were: the Empire, dark times, Clone Wars. There were these things that were discussed that don’t get explained. George [Lucas] dropped you into a story and respected you to infer everything necessary to understand what you need to know… Can this movie actually also hold, ‘And Rey is this … And Finn is that … And this is where Poe is from …’ This is the first of a series. There is a story to be told. And it will be.' ~ Lawrence Kasdan

Also, along with most everyone else, agree that the Rey reaching for the light saber scene is the best in the movie.

But I am probably in the minority... It might be my favorite Star Wars moment EVER.

You will not be judged for this. It's a fantastic moment.

I knew you were my brother! Good ranking!

This film has at least 2 top ten Star Wars moments for me. Rey taking the Saber is high up there and also the very last shot. Hamil not having any dialogue did not hinder that performance in any way for me. You can see all the emotions in his face and Ridley as well. Loved it.

Seeing it again in RPX tomorrow. As I said before, I hope I can enjoy it a little bit more now that the expectations are gone. SPECTRE became a pure Bond film for me on second viewing, and that's all I wanted from that film. Maybe something similar can happen here. Maybe there's a decent enough reason, other than laziness, as to why they recycled ANH's structure.

I should just maybe become one of those asses who closes their eyes and plugs their ears when the trailer for a movie they're really anticipating comes on.

One random scene I enjoyed: Chewie getting attended to by the Resistance's medic. She was great.

No. Convincing yourself you like the SW film is TPM, AOTC, ROTS at the time. At the time, those were amazing but of course then you realized all the negatives ruined the whole thing for the most part.

The Force Awakens doesn't suffer from a Jar Jar unless Boyega's comedic moments bother you that much. The only two negatives that really get in the way of the film are the re-hashed Death Star concept and the telegraphed Solo death. Ott, everything is interesting from my point of view. The characters are cool and it's such a pretty film to watch. There's no convincing yourself you like this when it really is leagues above any of the prequels.
