I think Room will miss. Or Brooklyn.

If they nominate TFA, and don't include Inside Out, I'm gonna piss and moan about it.

 Re: Best Picture: 2015
Start to think Bridge of Spies will miss. It's sort of in no man's land, not big enough to be discussed among all the blockbuster contenders and not small enough to stand out as art house darlings. It's just there, and in this year where the two extremes are offering great options, it's getting lost.

 Re: Best Picture: 2015
Repladed Brooklyn with it, but hey, we could see ten nominees.
BTW, what if we just had five this year? Which films would make it?
I'd say:
Star Wars Spotlight Carol The Martian The Revenant

Star Wars Spotlight Carol The Martian The Revenant Woah, caaaaaaaaalm. I'm not confident Star Wars is getting in the lineup at all, even with these reviews. Don't jump the gun yet.

I think Trumbo has a shot, how many times have we learned how the Academy feels about films about them

Star Wars is not getting in. The reviews are great, but from what I see, they are not Oscar worthy. Not anywhere near Fellowship of the Ring on Metacritic.

Does Abrams have a good report with the Academy?

Just like when Toy Story 3 wasn't nominated for Best Picture.

 Re: Best Picture: 2015
Toy Story 3 came out 11 years after Toy Story 2. This came out 10 years after Sith. Their nominations had nothing to due with any of the previous films.

 Re: Best Picture: 2015
It's simply a hyped up fanboy picture. Plenty of those get 90% on RT and they never score nominations unless they're Lord of the Rings. And you can't use the "Star Wars is in a different league" argument, because Empire Strikes Back missed a nomination.

 Re: Best Picture: 2015
If I were to argue against a Star Wars BP nomination, I would use Star Trek, which had 95% at RT and 82 at MC and of course the same director. However, Star Wars franchise has always had way more success at Oscars than Star Trek. The former had 7 wins and 22 noms so far (albeit most of the success came from the first film), while the latter didn't manage to one until the reboot and has yet been nominated in any major categories.
