The negative review from Salon.com reads:
Quote:
[Abrams ] has made an adoring copy of Star Wars, seeking to correct its perceived flaws, without understanding that nothing about that movie's context or meaning or enormous cultural impact can be duplicated.
In other words he is trying to say:
No matter what you would have done, Abrams, we would have slammed the film.

Yeah, all records are going down. With this much backing from critics and expected fanboy effects, it's going to stay high on IMDb for a long time too.

‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Opening Weekend Audience: Close To 40% Attending Thursday, Mostly 2D Shows'
Quote:
industry analysts are predicting a $50M Thursday night for Force Awakens, outstripping the pre-opening record of $43.5M made by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 in 2011.
Movio further notes that most of those heading out to see Star Wars on opening night are guys at close to 53% between the age of 22-49. That demo is 13% larger than those who watched Jurassic World on its first Thursday. In regards to the rest of the advanced ticket sales breakdown: 26.9% scooped up tickets for Friday, 14.9% on Saturday, 7.5% on Sunday, and 2.4% on Christmas day.

Just came back from the midnight screening and all I will say is that I'm planning to see it a couple more times on the big screen...

Been a while since I've been here, but looking forward to the fun ride that will be the next 4 days.
I made a view today analyzing the potential of The Force Awakens opening weekend. Granted you all already know this info and the video is meant for those out of the loop, but I thought you'd might be interested.
For what it's worth, I'm guessing 215M OW. Too many negative December factors preventing this from exploding (moreso than it already will)

Despite opening on weekdays Phantom Menace and Revenge of the Sith both SHATTERED the opening day records and came darn close to still breaking OW records.
I think this just might be the movie that finally breaks $100 million opening day.
After that, yeah, $500 million is a good minimum. $600 million if it's not a Phantom Menace-esque embarrassment.

I don't think a move to July is even necessary...
AVENGERS did 77 % ($477m) of its business in its first three weeks and a sequel will be definitely more frontloaded. A SW7 birth on Memorial Day weekend like the original trilogy is still in play...
Even so, Disney wouldn't want to position two of its potentially biggest movies ever so close to each other. They've positioned tentpole movies within about a month of each other before (Cars and POTC2 were pretty close to each other), but within the same month? They would rather have their first money-making machine go as far as it possibly can, then finally have their second money-making machine come in once the first is truly dried out. One opening in May and the other in mid-July (The TDK spot, basically) would work, or even 4th of July weekend.
Also, I understand the worries about overestimating this, but like, this is Star Wars. Even with the prequels it's something that EVERYONE truly cares about. Yesterday I first heard about this from THREE different people that don't normally talk movie news. With three years still to go this is already a REALLY big deal in the general public - I'm sure most of them could even name three movies opening next summer. And the hype is only going to grow from there, especially if they get good talent and market the holy hell out of it (And I mean, it's Disney, c'mon).

No film had ever made over $8 million from midnight screenings, but Revenge of the Sith made almost $17 million (despite it being a Wednesday night).
Doing the inconceivable is kinda Star Wars' M.O. And this time around it's doing the "impossible" while starting on a Friday, so it's not even as handicapped as previous movies in the franchise.
And now, my 99% final predictions:
Friday: $107 million ($52 million Thursday night) Saturday: $58 million Sunday: $55 million Opening Weekend: $220 million
Monday: $34 million Tuesday: $33 million Wednesday: $28 million Thursday: $17 million Opening Week: $332 million
2nd Weekend: $110 million 3rd Weekend: $72 million 4th Weekend: $35 million 5th Weekend: $26 million
Domestic Total: $736 million International Total: $1.264 billion Worldwide Total: $2 billion

Same here. I fucking loved it. Already planning my second viewing which isn't so easy because most of the showtimes the next couple days are already sold out.

Awesome that you guys loved it. So many friends if mine have seen it today but I'm waiting to see it with my wife which may not be until after Christmas.
