 The Oscars Awaken Okay, there is no way it is not getting nominated, right? Re: The Oscars Awaken The Academy was notoriously anti-Star Wars in 2005 in the tech nominations. But obviously this will be a superior film. So who knows, I could see it.

Re: The Oscars Awaken My first thought was that the inclusion of Star Wars would hurt The Martian's chances...but that didn't happen with Avatar/District 9.

Re: The Oscars Awaken I don't think it will hurt The Martian's chance at a nomination, but it will definitely hurt its chance at winning by both taking the buzz away and presenting the question that if you'll vote for The Martian at No. 1, why not Star Wars then that's in the same genre, with bigger box office, and even better reviews on top of all.
If Star Wars/The Martian/Mad Max all get nominated and Spotlight ends up winning, it'll be a bigger letdown for the audience than when The Hurt Locker won. At least The Hurt Locker appealed to the same audience of District 9 and Avatar, while for Spotlight/Carol, not so much.
