Yeah, Potter 8 had $45m on the Thursday of release. $100m in presales is just staggering.

They said 50-60 million is for opening weekend. Impressive that much is not for OW.

THR also says that others estimate presales at $120m...

The JW figure from Movie Tickets is interesting in the sense that Universal never reported a dollar amount for JW presales. If it was really only running 20% behind Star Wars in total presales, it would have over $80m in presales (almost double Potter's record). What are the odds of Universal keeping quiet? Unless their goal was to shock everyone (which they did)?

That said, you would think with $80m in presales that JW would have done a hell of a lot better on Thursday evening than $18m. The only halfway logical conclusion about the MovieTickets comparison is that they mean hour to hour right now and excluding the enormous amount that Star Wars already sold in previous weeks/months.

Or MT is still going crazy in the Black Mass aftermath.

I don't think JW did 80 million in presales, that 20% is just movietickets data.

Christmas is way too crowded... Did the other studios underestimate SW?

So I decided not to take any chances and went to get my tickets for Friday at 3:00pm. Now, LETS GO!!!!

So 9.2 average on IMDb after day 1 and over 5,000 votes.

Wow, some theaters sold out almost the entire house.

If I had the time/patience to go into each IMAX theater to see which ones are actually sold out, I would. But I don't. So I don't. But all 3 Thursday IMAX showings near me are sold out.

I'm going on Saturday afternoon.

You're going to have a new favorite actress after you see it.

I'm willing to go out on a limb and predict STAR WARS wins the weekend.

4.5 hours till this marathon starts. AMC went with 0100 instead of 0400 like other theatres for some reason.

With just one day to go it's up to 24 sellouts for Thursday, but Friday remains steady. I even see one less sellout than when I looked before, but that's probably due to spillover business because of the crazy amount of showtimes.

This time tomorrow night I'll be deep in star wars OMG! I can't believe it's almost here

Calm before the storm update. With 48 sold out showings going into the films opening wk, this is a new record for sellouts pre-release here in Anchorage besting potter7.2 which had 33 pre-release sellouts at night of release.
