I don't want to read any reviews before seeing it. I may have to quit the internet for a few days.

My final prediction is going to be 220/780. It's time for Avatar to go down.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
I'll never come off my original superstition. Public demand is huge but some are way over the top. STAR WARS is not more popular now than it was in 1999 or 2005. I will happily eat me words, but I think $200 million is simply impossible. Anything over $150m is amazing.
Relative to expectations....anything under $180m and it is no doubt a disappointment. Under $150m and its borderline flopping.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
I would argue sequels inherently have broader appeal than prequels. With prequels, there's always the stigma of "Well, why does this matter if we know what happens afterwards?", unless it's a full reboot like ST09, of course.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
I normally agree, but the OT is over 30 years old. I just cannot see walk ups with the under 40 crowd being overly impressive. Can't see it, they don't care about Han or Leia, just like they didnt care about Indiana Jones (much) in 2008.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
You forget the Prequels were hugely popular with the younger crowds. They were not all time hits like the old films but TPM and ROTS adjusted are massive today.
Since ROTS only FIVE Films have sold more tickets (DMC, TDK, AVATAR, TA, JW).
So SW having no appeal to younger crowds makes no sense as the prequels brought a lot of younger people to SW.
You got young and old together for this film and you get a gigantic blockbuster on your hands.

CRYSTAL SKULL's ticket sales were in the same ballpark as TEMPLE OF DOOM and LAST CRUSADE?

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
I only read the beginnings of the Trade Paper reviews: V: J. J. Abrams' hugely anticipated blockbuster brings welcome jolts of energy, warmth and excitement back to the biggest franchise in movie history. THR: The Force is back. Big time. As the best Star Wars anything — film, TV show, video game, spinoff, what-have-you — in at least 32 years, Star Wars: The Force Awakens pumps new energy and life into a hallowed franchise in a way that both resurrects old pleasures and points in promising new directions. But whereas the fundamental touchstones of George Lucas' original creation remain, in director J.J. Abrams' hands there is a shift in tone that brings the material closer to the feel of a Steven Spielberg film. Specifically, into an Indiana Jones realm, which is mostly, but not entirely, to the good. SD: Robustly entertaining while carrying the weight of impossible audience expectations, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is a fascinating, often satisfying mixture of rollicking mythmaking and fan service. As with many recent franchises restarting their creative and commercial juices, the seventh instalment of this iconic sci-fi series feels spread a little thin, trying to satisfy long-time supporters while introducing fresh energy and new characters. But after the uninspired prequels, most will simply be happy to know that director J.J. Abrams has delivered a properly swashbuckling Star Wars adventure. http://variety.com/2015/film/reviews/st ... 201661978/http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/review ... iew-848963http://www.screendaily.com/reviews/star ... ntID=40562

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
Rotten Tomatoes is adding new reviews every minute, but right now it's sitting pretty at 100%/8.6 with 37 reviews in.
Everything is going is its way right now.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
The majority of its Metacritic reviews are in now too, and it's sitting pretty at an 83, with eight of the 32 reviews having perfect scores.
This is pretty much best case scenario for it right now. Shit's getting real.
