I hope Room does well with the Golden Globe nominations this week. It needs the help.

The Good Dinosaur 's weekend is the worst second weekend gross for a Pixar movie ever, even unadjusted for inflation. It's even worse than the third weekend of every Pixar movie save Cars 2, A Bug's Life, and Toy Story. What a rough run.

Very nice opening for Krampus. The first post-Thanksgiving opener to make over $10 million since Aeon Flux, and the best opener overall since The Last Samurai. SEE STUDIOS? THIS WEEKEND ISN'T TOAL DEATH.

Pretty meh weekend for the limited releases. Hopefully awards season resuscitates things.

I mean, Pixar definitely did help it. If Dreamworks or some random studio released this film instead of Pixar, I can't imagine it opening to over $30 million. Impossible to prove though, unfortunately.

Well, Pixar did release two shitty films (CARS 1 & 2)...

Can Spectre make it to $200m?

Pretty decent weekend considering what weekend it is.

MJ2 held pretty poorly compared to MJ1, but about the same as Catching Fire. Even if it holds a little worse than MJ1 from here on out, it should continue the trend of better multipliers for the series. Right now I see it ending right around 288m, depending on how it holds when TFA opens.

Krampus did incredible! Hopefully studios take notice. Would be really funny if it ends up out-opening next week's "major" release, In the Heart of the Sea. There really aren't any good comparisons for how this movie will hold going forward, seeing as just about every movie that opens this weekend ends up losing lots of screens their second weekends. I see it ending in the 45-50m range.

Pretty amazing hold for Creed. Even The Blind Side fell 50% this weekend (it's 3rd wk) so I think it's hold is a good sign. It may end right around 120m, but it may get hurt badly by TFA.

Pitiful for The Good Dinosaur. It actually fell worse than Penguins did last year. With Chipmunks expected to disappoint, I think this may end up being the "go-to" option for parents with younger children over the holidays, so I think it may be able to limp its way to 135m or so.

Next weekend is going to be boring as hell, hopefully we'll at least have some strong holds to talk about.

there is clearly some brand equity with Pixar but this performance just makes one question how much it is.

prior to this performance, I probably would have said that Pixar could release a shitty film and it still will do 150m+ easily. and that just isn't true.

I still don't think it has much to do with quality of the film. Brave, Monster's U and Cars all had similar RT scores and are going to nearly double the gross of TGD. Cars 2 isn't even in the same league as those and it's going to outgross it by 50m+. Not to mention the countless non-Pixar movies that have had terrible reviews but still grossed more.

TGD was a disappointment from the first day, before WOM could have set in and received an "A" cinemascore anyways. I think it really just boils down to not many people being interested in what was presented to them. Which could be the fault of the marketing, or people just genuinely weren't interested.

Sorry- after writing this, I'm not sure if you guys were saying this movie was shitty and that's why it disappointed, but I've heard other people on this forum say that and I just wanted to argue my point!

I think so, but it will be close. If it follows QoS from here on out, it gets to 198m. However, it's held consistently better than that one so far. As long as TFA doesn't kill it in 2 weeks, I see Sony pushing it there with help from the holidays.

Fantastic opening for Krampus. Being a horror comedy/creature feature and achieving the highest post Thanksgiving opening since Aeon Flux is definitely something to brag about. It's also just nice to see mainstream audiences caring about horror films outside of found footage and ghost flicks. It should be able to leg it's way to a $45-$50M total. Good drops for Creed and The Night Before aswell, but what a horrible hold for TGD. Sub $150M for a Pixar film is brutal.

Same here. I hope it gets all of the major nominations. It's kind of floundering right now.

Go Krampus! Nice opening. I hope it doesn't drop too harshly next weekend. There isn't much new competition.

Carol continues to shine in its very limited release. Why Weinstein is still holding out on releasing it further is surprising.

I don't think it will drop any harder than The Visit.

So 300 is out for MJ even before SW opens? I mean, I expected it to fall short due to Star Wars, but I wonder why it couldn't hold as well as MJ1 this weekend.

Because you dont wide release these type of awards films until after the precursors are given out. They're slow burners. Look what happened to Steve Jobs.

Buying a tent. Receiving the tent. Working out how to use the tent. Packing the tent.

Tent stuff takes time.

That is poor drop for TGD and not very good for MJ2 as well. I am thinking $125m and $295m total respectively for them. Really DISAPPOINTING.

That's nice drop fro Creed. It will face competition next weekend before the bigger blow in SW.

Thanks to the holidays Spectre will be able to crawl past $200m.

Spotlight and Brooklyn are doing good.

Surprising good hold for Legend. Carol is doing great, it should have been expanded to 100 theatres by now.

I don't really mind, as it's crap. But it is beyond pathetic for a Pixar film. Walking into the Disney store, you'd think it were the next Frozen, the amount of merchandise they have in there,
