Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
Quote: My sources have the latest box office numbers for Warner Bros' Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows – Part 2. Domestically, $45 million has been collected already in pre-sales for this opening North America weekend, including $27M for tonight's 3,000+ midnight screenings which could reach $40M alone. This was reported by Deadline Thursday afternoon, which was certainly the record before now. Obviously, Star Wars' $54M a month before release is a huge, hilarious obliteration of that record.

It won't touch Harry's Thursday night record.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
I'll never buy into the stratospheric hype but I think this look awesome.
Even with huge presales, I don't see over $150m OW.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
At this point, I think Magnus is lowballing the opening weekend. It is not just gonna slightly outdo Jurassic World... I think it will reach $70-80 million in presales before it opens.
I'm thinking a $221 million opening weekend and a $735-750 million total. It will be unusually frontloaded for a December release.
But then again, if it gets within $10 million of Avatar, I am sure Disney will do SOMETHING to pass it.

That's why I think it won't outopen JW by that much. It's total by end of Saturday will be well above what JW had end of Saturday but it won't come close to the 57m Sunday that JW had. Maybe...though it could still manage a $115-120 million opening day to offset that.

Ehhh, with the exact same daily pattern Avatar managed a 3% Sunday drop. With sellouts almost certainly pushing business from Friday into Saturday and then into Sunday, I think matching or even surpassing Jurassic World's hold is perfectly feasible - almost certain, actually.

The fact that we are discussing this film opening to JW levels (and it likely will get close) - Avatar is going down.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
Press screenings are December 15th in Germany. I did consider going myself, but 34 1/2 hours difference between the nearest press screening and my midnight ticket are not worth the hazzle...
