Looks like the 10pm is sold out, I just put in a single ticket buy and it is not showing me any available seats. The 1:30am looks about 70% sold out, with all of the good seats gone.

The showings where you can select your own seats won't show up as sell outs, because inevitably there's scattered single seats & front rows available. But they're as good as sell outs.

As an example, this 7 p.m. IMAX show in L.A...

KANSAS CITY, MO SELL OUTS (I might be missing a theater or two; I haven't lived in KC for a while & don't know many of the theaters outside of the AMC franchise):

ALAMO DRAFTHOUSE MAINSTREET

7pm (3D), 7:30pm (3D), 8pm, 8:30pm, 10:15pm, 11:15pm

[Friday] 12:15am (3D), 1pm (3D), 4:45pm (3D), 6:30pm (3D)

***

AMC STUDIO 28 WITH DINE-IN THEATRES (Barrywoods & Indepdence used to be the ones to sell out first, but Studio 28 in Olathe seems to be the go-to for movies in the KC region nowadays; the other AMCs will sell out more once we get closer to day-of... When Ep III came out, I was in line the entire day at AMC Independence and as the hours wore on, they kept opening more and more screens until finally they cancelled their later showings of other movies so they could fill ALL 20 screens with Star Wars at midnight... I think, also, the age of Independence's location needs to be taken into account; they haven't upgraded it the way they have other locations in the metro, so people gravitate away from there more and more)

2D: 7pm, 7pm, 7pm, 7pm, 7pm, 7pm, 7pm, 7pm, 7pm, 7:30pm, 7:30pm, 8pm, 8:45pm, 9pm, 10:30pm

3D: 7pm, 7:30pm, 8:15pm, 8:30pm, 9:45pm, 10:45pm, 11:15pm

IMAX 3D: 7pm, 10:30pm

***

AMC WARD PARKWAY 14

2D: 7pm, 7pm, 7:15pm, 7:30pm, 8pm, 10pm, 10:15pm, 11pm

3D: 7pm, 7:15pm, 7:30pm, 9pm, 10:30pm, 11:30pm

***

AMC BARRYWOODS 24

IMAX 3D: 7pm, 11pm

***

AMC INDEPENDENCE COMMONS 20

IMAX 3D: 7pm, 10:30pm

***

PS: Yes, I'm back... Been three years (three very crazy years IRL), but Star Wars brought me back. I've missed this place!

TFA's crazier, we're still 19 days out. This could be near 1000 showtimes by that Thursday afternoon. It's already matched AOU's final tallies.

I'll do a Friday (12/18) chart/comparison come this weekend.

Here's TDKR 19 days out (same time frame as TFA now).

So from 19 days out until the day of, TDKR sold out an additional 235 showtimes?!? That's fucking bananas.

Yeah, and if you go through the thread, it was at 81 sellouts on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning (12:30 AM Wed). So it tripled its sellouts in <48 hours.

The next night, Wednesday night/Thursday morning (12:45 AM Thurs), it was at 118 sellouts, so it doubled its sellouts in <24 hours. Here's that chart:

Image

That said, remember that a lot of shows were probably at or near 95%, so these went from showing up as available to sold-out really quickly. But tracking TDKR that week was insane. Only one crazier was DH2, but unfortunately I don't have my charts for that anymore.

Since TFA was so hyped as far as buying tickets early, it won't have anywhere near that kind of increase. But I could see it matching TDKR in total sell outs.

Maybe. A lot more showtimes this time around plus a lot more reserved seating. Which means, people are aware of when only undesirable seats are available as well AND there are more options ITO showtimes to avoid these seats. I think it could end up being the case that it falls short of TDKR's sellouts.

Comparing to TDKR is not that sensible as that was in 2D was released at Midnight and there was no reserved seating back then.

With shows from 7pm to next morning you really dont have to be selling out all the shows to get a large number.

Yeah there was dude, it was 3 years ago and reserved seating is hardly some innovation. In my area there is a greater proportion of reserved seating theaters showing TFA than there were for TDKR, but TDKR still had reserved seating.

Post Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens Sellout/Crowd Report Thread
1st Friday Sellout/Showtime Count for NoVA/DC/MD as of 1 AM EST, Monday December 7th

Image

78 sellouts, 593 showtimes

33/188 2D
21/297 3D
4/4 15/70 IMAX
18/56 3D IMAX
2/48 PLF/Other

2D and IMAX 3D are leading the sellouts, comprising of >65% of the 78 total.
3D is making up 50% of the shows.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Only 593 showtimes right now, but given 11.5 days to go, that's the largest I've seen this early.  Friday sellouts are clearly ahead of anything else I've tracked.

For comparison:

AOU

April 29 (2 days): 26/1045
April 30 (1 day): 36/1074
May 1 (day of): 36/1078 (1PM EST)

IM3

April 30 (3 days): 2/560
May 1 (2 days): 3/784
May 2 (1 day): 3/823
May 3 (day of): 114/867 (11 PM EST)

BD2

Nov 11 (5 days): 8/247
Nov 13 (3 days): 8/464
Nov 14 (2 days): 9/633
Nov 16 (day of): 117/655 (11:35 PM EST)

TDKR

July 4th (16 days): 3/285
July 10th (10 days): 7/276
July 13th (7 days): 8/295
July 17th morning (3 days): 16/339
July 17th evening (3 days): 22/576
July 18th (2 days): 27/653

I never did a final count on Friday; just got demotivated after the shooting.

TA1

May 2 (2 days): 1/605
May 3 (1 day): 5/619
May 4 (day of): 26/627 (3PM EST)

THG

Mar 17 (6 days): 6/363
Mar 19 (4 days): 7/395
Mar 20 (3 days): 12/680
Mar 21 (2 days): 13/704
Mar 22 (1 day): 18/710
Mar 23 (day of): 47/710 (midnight)
