Post Re: Star Wars Breaks All The Records Club
Just looking at the weak December schedule I think SW will be gargantuan also because its being shoved down our throats by scared studios. I mean there is nothing else in the market after SW's release to be REALLY excited for, so most people who would like to spend money for movies will just make repeat trips to it. Which is really good for SW's legs. I think it might not tumble too hard after its opening because of this.

I'm still not convinced that this will break ALL of the records specially the longevity records set by the other two record breaking December movies : Biggest 3rd-7th weekend Avatar and 8th-12th weekend Titanic. I also don't think it will get to $106m second weekend if it crosses JW by "just" $5m-$10m" because its previews will be MUCH bigger towards its OD.

People are skipping the theater over Thanksgiving, no reason those who have already seen Star Wars won't skip it over Christmas.

Last few years Thanksgiving hasn't been BIG but Christmas always is.

The last few Christmases that haven't had Christmas eve on a weekend day
2014- 187
2013- 180
2012- 163
2009- 259
2008- 179
2007- 168
2006- 143

So it really doesn't guarantee anything. Christmas 2012 and 2013 were smaller than Thanksgiving.

Regardless it doesn't say what you are suggesting that if people are not interested in seeing moving over Thanksgiving they will ignore Christmas movies they will possibly like just because they have to see them again.

Too bad it's going to be uber.

Would be hilarious if it wasn't.

Can't wait for all these big tentpoles to disappoint. BVS, CACW and whatnot. Like, who fucking cares?

And yes, I do eat my words if I end up liking the movie; Ant Man. But, from here, I can throw all the shit I want.

Winter Soldier, Ultron, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. were all not revolutionary. The love-in the CA franchise gets is incredible for such an empty useless piece of celluloid.

Hopefully the Revenant or Hateful Eight can steal a #1 weekend title somewhere. January looks so terrible that SW could do an Avatar by default.

No what I'm saying is people won't necessarily go to the movies just to go. Casual audiences will watch Star Wars once, maybe twice, but aside from the hardcore 1% of fans, it's not like people are going to go see Star Wars every day of Christmas break just because it's the only blockbuster playing. By that logic, AOU would have held better, and Mockingjay would be doing better as well.

MJ is doing better even with competition as this franchise always does. AoU had competition upfront and F7 stole a lot of its thunder. That's not the case with SW. Also I never mentioned people would watch SW every day...what???

Well the Star Wars hype flattened everything in November. That's not an official record, but it is box office history nonetheless.

That is because it is a restricted film and you can't use free passes until January 4th...

Adele didn't even make the Top 10. So... Very reliable lists!
