Sub 10 million OD is disappointing no matter how you spin it.

Eh. The movie never had any buzz really. If it wasn't Pixar this would not be disappointing at all. Also it's their first year ever they have two movies. I feel like TGD didn't exist up until two months ago. Very low key marketing. They pushed the hell out of Inside Out. They should've done a joint trailer (this year Pixar brings you two movies bla bla bla). I think they messed it up from a marketing point of view. People are used to having one (or not a single one) Pixar movie each year.

Oh and yeah. It's mediocre apparently.

For a weaker effort (and a bizarre production) from Pixar, the 200+ gross it'll probably finish with is fine.

It's opening we're talking about though. Pixar movies don't open sub 60 over 3 days, let alone possibly over 5 days. It makes no sense. I do agree there wasn't as much marketing push; stuff for The Good Dinosaur was not polluting my FB feed like past Disney animations have. It's not lie its a bad movie, and the marketing that there was was visually stunning. The fact that this will barely match Ratatouille's attendance in its opening is pathetic considering how much more appealing dinosaurs are than cooking rats.

And no Flava'd, #NotStarWars is not an answer, and I would hope the mods would delete any further posts containing that blasphemy.

Especially below Tangled is pathetic.

Oh how I long for Thanksgiving 2013 when my favorite movies of the year both broke Thanksgiving records!

Everyone saw this coming but you, zwacks. No buzz, no big weekend. It will be fine though. It's the only option parents with younger children will have during Christmas season.

Why is there a belief that dinosaurs are an easy sell? Also this year already filled any dinosaur craze there was.

Disney's own fare into Dinosaur world wasn't a huge success either. And basically all other successful dino movies are from the Jurassic series. Hey here's a thought - maybe dinosaurs aren't an easy sell?

Pixar would not expect it to be so muted.

It could miss $200m if it acts like Tangled, which had a bigger OD. That would be the worst attended Pixar movie ever.

I don't think it does that much more with its original release date wither. Probably 65/230 area. Arlo is gonna turn off most people over the age of 5. The rest of the movie was good enough for me, but we will see how the mainstream reacts.

Doesn't matter if there's buzz, it's Pixar. Pixar movies opening sub 60 3-day or 80 5-day is truly atrocious.

I'm still seeing this, but it seems across the board, everyone has indeed been painting it to be something passable and otherwise disposable.

Hopefully I will not be in the same boat as you guys.

If it makes you feel better zwack, this would be looking at a Penguins of Madagascar type gross if it wasn't for the Disney/Pixar logos.

I'm starting to believe that myself. Today, while in line for tickets, there were two groups of people asking for Star Wars tickets and left after buying them.

I figured it out. Creationists don't want their kids taught about dinosaurs.

But really, I don't understand why Buzz was low. Reviews were better than Brave, which still managed high 60's OW. Buzz should have been at least as high. But saying it bombed because Buzz was low is like saying the president was elected because people voted for him. It explains nothing.

No, it would do 100 million. But Pixar'sother movies would have done worse from another studio too.

Take away Pixar and it's a very generic looking animated film. Animated talking dinosaurs is not new. Pixar usually gives a fresher subject feelings than this. There had to be something in the concept beyond a dinosaur and his friend. The dinosaurs still existing in 2015 would have been one to work with

Pixar went wrong.

Seriously, I agree it looked pretty generic and uninteresting.

9.8 million is a decent start for this film. Remember, Toy Story 2 got 9.6 million for it's opening Wednesday. I say it's on it's way to about 45 million for the 3-day and about 60 - 65 for the 5 day.
