That's the message under George Bush America. In Obamamerica I feel the message is more "tough and cruel, but necessary, we're sorry", which the shooting of the Somali pirates is.
Not my main problem with the movie though, just something that irked me unexpectedly. What makes this an OK movie as opposed to a great one is the momentum killing lifeboat stretch that goes on for half an hour before anything interesting starts happening again.

Well I disagree on that as nothing "Happening" the lifeboat moments are arguably the most important part of the whole film. And when Phillips jumps out and tries to flee is one of the most intense moments of the whole film.

Whoa baby. That was intense. The last 30 or so minutes was thrilling and Hanks was phenomenal.
