Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
It's already in the breaking records thread, but I'm just gonna leave this here. 'Star Wars: Force Awakens' Trailer Viewed 112 Million Times in 24 HoursQuote: The Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer was viewed more than 112 million times online in 24 hours, according to a post from Lucasfilm on StarWars.com.
Combined with the 16 million viewers that tuned in to watch the trailer on Monday Night Football, that's a total of 128 million views.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
I'm starting to feel this will open huge, but hold worse than any comparable December release. Like a 40% drop (or more!) may be in play with so much upfront demand. It at least seems it should drop significantly more than ROTK.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
I tend to agree. I think the legs will be good because of the holidays, but we're not going to see a 5x multiplier. Something like a 3x -- maybe, maybe a 4x -- seems more likely to me.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
You can never predict a juggernaut. Rules are meant to be broken. The potential is so high fir it's OW that even if December dampens it (and it will) it will still be close to a record breaker.
The legs are anyone's guess but a 4 multiplier is very achievable (pending quality offcourse).

Combined with the 16 million viewers that tuned in to watch the trailer on Monday Night Football, that's a total of 128 million views. Reading the comments on the youtube trailer (seen over 40+ million times as of now), you can see among the top comments several 'I've watched this 10+++ times a day since release' or 'I've watched this trailer so many times' which suggest that not all of these 112 million views were individual, far from that. And yet they're adding those views to the 16 million individual viewers who watched the trailer during Monday Night Football. That's like adding apples and oranges.

Do you think everyone who saw the FURIOUS 7 trailer only watched it once? Or the AGE OF ULTRON trailer? It's tallying trailer views, not individual IPs.

It's just that usually you would add views to views or individual viewers to individual viewers (like Nielsen ratings with DVR) instead of mixing both. And personally I'd be more interested in the number of viewers, especially since studios buying views/likes/followers is really not unheard of.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
The people that watched it on Monday Night Football could not watch it more than once using that resource so it's fine to add them together. Perhaps many of them went and watched it again on YouTube.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
Monday night football was up 16% overall just in the 18-49 demographic. Couldn't find anything else though, but being that is doing the entire 3.5 hour event, seems pretty good, for people that may have only showed up for all of 10 minutes

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
Has anyone read the deadline report on SW presales? http://deadline.com/2015/10/star-wars-t ... 201592211/There ARE more nerds than I thought. This does not bode well for opening weekend in my opinion it just reinforces the thoughts that this audience will not be as diverse as is needed to "break all records" Who knows if what deadline is reporting is true but I can see this being the case.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
Quote: Other stats uncovered by Movio about Force Awakens ticket buyers: They’re regular moviegoers who attend at least once a month and spend 2.6X more in average at the box office than the typical moviegoer. Two-thirds of this crowd attend a new title, particularly uber tentpoles such as Jurassic World and Avengers: Age Of Ultron during debut week, with most heading out to the multiplex on opening night Yep, that surely doesn't bode well for its opening weekend.

34 years old really isn't that high an average. That's actually lower than the age of the franchise.

All that means is its certainly connecting with its target audiences an the people who have pre ordered tickets were ready to do so the moment the film was announced.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
What it means is that men are driving the presales of this movie. I would venture to say white men in particular. The tie-in to Monday Night Football makes perfect sense now.
My observation is that super popular movies are driven by multi racial/cultural and cross gender appeal, this movie will obviously not be a flop but I think the 250+ predictions are not valid either. We will all see how this plays out.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
Star Wars has always been a franchise that skews older anyways, so that data isn't saying anything new. However, I do think it supports my previous suspicion that the die hard fans are the one's that drove the presales madness Monday. I don't see this hurting its potential record breaking opening though and like the article also said both JW and AOU skewed older aswell and still opened HUGE, although it will need a significant amount of younger fans to show up in order to reach these crazy $220M+ predictions some on here seem so confident in.

are the average movie goers either over 30 or under 16 anyway? The 20 year old generation download shit illegally anyway for the most part.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
As I mentioned in the weekend thread, I think Star Wars is going to be fucking massive now.
I literally did not know how many of my friends, for whatever reason, seem to like it. Just all kinds of people. I don't understand why. What is the appeal of Star Wars?
The prequels are absolutely terrible.
The only one I like is the original. They get progressively worse.
