 Finally get a new computer
Well I think my computer has finally shut down. I went to go on it last night and my mom had shut it down(one thing I never do). It popped up saying Invaild system disk so I put in the Quick Restore program. That restored it but now it is saying that it's missing the operating system. Anyone know what to do btw this computer was from 1999 with windows 98.
If no one can help then I will only be on here maybe once a week not even that. I am trying to get money for a new computer, but I might be out of luck. My vaccum, dryer, ice maker and now the computer have all broken down on me/my mom in the past 2 weeks. It would be nice to get a new computer especially a fast one that might actually have a good modem not one that keeps kicking me offline.

I suggest do a complete system restore. Bring it back to the factory state. I had to do that at least once every 2 months when I had my old computer which was roughly the same age as yours. I also don't suggest keeping your computer on 24/7. It's good to give the little chips in their a rest.

you said quick restore. I don't think the quick restore is the one you want to do. You'd want to do a complete system recovery. You have to delete everything on your cpu and you have to restore it. Take the long way buddy. I've had a shitty computer for the longest time too but I've learned that there is never a shortcut.

do you have a windows 98 system recovery cd? With that cd it should give you the option to do the quick or a complete system recovery.

Nope this a compaq restore disk. See what happened was my computer was struck by lightning in 2002. Some guy took it and fixed it up for us (it was very expensive) and installed a slow modem that kicks ya off every time u got on it.So basically I got nothing.I am basically screwed b/c you can't buy windows 98 anywhere

Well your compaq restore disk should have a complete system recovery option on it. It might be different because when I had my crappy cpu, it was a hp pavillion and it had a different system recovery cd made for it. I'm at a lost for ya buddy.

well another suggestion that I would give you is to start saving up for a new computer. That's what happend to me. My computer was shitting out on me way too much so I just went out the next day and bought a new computer. Spent 1500$ on the cpu and a new monitor but it was worth it.

well it's been 2/3 days since I posted which is killing me. I am trying to get a computer but I only need a tower/cpu b/c the monitor and keyboard and mouse. The problem I am having is that the cheapest computer i have found is almost 600 bucks. So i will be on about once a week for the next month or so

I'm happy for you dude. I'm glad you got a new computer. My computer is pretty old too, and it sucks at times. But I just appreciate what I have, and I don't have the money right now so I am grateful I even have this computer to hold on to until I get a newer one.

Congrats on a new PC!
I'm getting a new comp in June, I hope.. I have nearly $450 saved, and my parents are going to pay the other half. Mine's gonna be custom-made though.

How much did it cost you? I bought my new computer (Dell) in October and it was around $900. I didn't get a DVD player/burner or a printer, but I did get a few other extras and it has a lot of memory and ram. I heard now that you can get one from $500 or something? That's crazy, but I bet it's not including anything, just the basics.

I dont have the sheet in front of me but it cost 999 and i am paying 40 a month.I believe it has 250 MB memory,cd burner, dvd player,Flat screen monitor, an all-in-one printer(scanner, copier, fax, printer),and excellent graphics.I got it yesterday but i wont be hooking it up til friday or saturday b/c my office/computer room is a mess,so my mom wont let it go in there til it is cleaned up. Hopefully I will be posting more now but I doubt it since I am working 5 days a week 9-5 at Chuck E Cheese.

I leave my computer on all the time, too.
Anyways, congratulations on the new computer. My dad just bought a Dell for $850 with a 19-inch flat panel monitor, 1GB memory, 80GB hard drive, Pentium 4 3.0GHz HT processor; the works. I'm envious of his 19-inch.
