I think it is very unlikely to be bad, given J.J. Abrams track record. At least it can't be any worse than the prequels.

They were teasers and no they are not enough.

I'd honestly be fine if they don't drop a full trailer at all (although I know that that's not gonna happen) but I want it so so bad. I mean we have no (official) idea what the plot and other than Sirkis and Ford we have heard no dialogue. I needs it!

I've often thought (and hoped) what would happen if a studio had the balls to NOT market a major blockbuster like Star Wars VII...I feel it would be a major success. The lack of any advertising would itself create a media frenzy of speculation, that would actually be a MAJOR MAJOR cost saving for the studios involved. Free press, no outlay ... a huge risk, and one that no studio exec would ever greenlight, but I just know it would work.

Some people would also be hugely disinterested in a film They knew nothing about.

Nah. I don't see that happening. All those people didn't go to see Avatar because the trailers were great or because they were all sworn Avatar fans and knew all about the film. They went to see it because it became a media and social event. The same can happen in theory with what I mentioned above. Especially to something like Star Wars because everybody knows what Star Wars is.

I'd just like to see how it would play out is all I am saying. Not going to get into a debate on hypotheticals.

Piedmont Media Research is a group of pollers that has been around for the last few years, that scores film anticipation out of a possible score of 1,000 after asking 3,000 moviegoers about which upcoming films they are interested in seeing. No score has ever even come close to 1,000; until recently, the highest score ever was Avengers: Age of Ultron with a score of 509. When asked about upcoming The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the final Hunger Games film achieved the highest score ever with a ridiculous 514, while Star Wars scored the third highest ever with a 489.

It is certainly worth noting that while Avengers: Age of Ultron had the highest polling, Jurassic World managed to out open it by a decent margin this past summer. My best guess is that Star Wars and Jurassic World are more casual watches, while Mockingjay: Part 2 and Age of Ultron really were only for the already initiated filmgoer who had seen all prior installments, and their fans are more vocal when it comes to tracking stuff like this.

My conclusion is that Mockingjay Part 2 will indeed open a good bit higher than Part 1, around 140-145 million or so, while Star Wars won't break any opening records due to its more casual audience on the whole, and end up opening on par with or below Mockingjay 2, it will out gross Mockingjay by a wide margin still due to the strength of the legs it will get from the holidays.

Just wait till marketing kicks in full come November

What? 2,2,3,2. The number of times I saw those 4 movies in the theater. I loved each of them for very different reasons, and they all deserved the legs they got, because they generated repeat viewings by a large audience. As far as I'm concerned, MBFGW is the most amazing box office run I've seen. It was released in 2002 and played in theaters for A YEAR. That doesn't happen without great WOM, and WOM is earned thus deserved.

MBFGW does, indeed, have the most remarkable box-office-run ever, made even more remarkable by the fact that the film left no significant mark on the cultural landscape whatsoever is barely remembered by anyone nowadays, which will show when the sequel will utterly bomb next year.

Agreed, aside from the year it was in theaters, it didn't leave a mark (though I have heard a few people make a windex heals anything joke once in a while). And I doubt the sequel will do well, though I am curious to see how Universal approaches it.

The sequel is up against BvS right? Could be decent Eastwr counter programming.

As for this weekend - fantastic weekend IMO (apart from Everest).

This weekend has the depth we lacked most of the summer (which was more top heavy) so it's good news for the next few months.

I still think Everest and maybe The Walk should have opened in the summer.
