..says its director.

I disagree with him. I think it should have.

That would be Midnight Cowboy.

It's really fine it has, it's no worse than Argo and that won the Oscar too...but 2004 was a pretty good year for movies, much more competitive than 2012, and plenty others would have been honest winners as well.

My vote would have been for Million Dollar Baby.

Just a grasp of what else was great there in 04 aside from the other nominees: Before Sunset, Collateral. And then we haven't even mentioned the other also really good but not Oscar material films: Troy, Anchorman, The Notebook, Man on Fire, The Terminal, Saw, Catwoman (Algren's fav ;) ), Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Cellular.

Great year.

In an ideal world, Collateral would have won. They campaigned for it.

Crash was 2005, not 2004. Million Dollar Baby did win Best Picture in 2004. Collateral and all those other films mentioned were also 2004 films.

Crash shouldn't have been filmed at all.

Whoa. I have rarely disagreed with Algren so vividly.

He was confused because Crash debuted at the 2004 Toronto Film Festival and is therefore listed as a 2004 film on the IMDb, among other sites.

Anyway, if I ran the Oscars, the 2005 best-picture lineup would be:

Match Point
The New World
Pride & Prejudice
Syriana
The Weather Man

With Pride & Prejudice winning.

But I forgive the Academy.

Hahaha
David, I love that line-up.

Mine would be:

Pride and Prejudice
Caché
The New World
A History of Violence
Munich

So, 2005. Not a very good year.
Out of the nominees Crash makes total sense for me.

Munich sucked pretty much.

Best 5 of 05:

Sin City
Crash
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Walk the Line
V for Vendetta

In that order, with Sin City winning.

Very good movies too, but not with the best of the year for me.

If I ran the 2005 Oscars:

Sin City
A History of Violence
War of the Worlds
Jarhead
Derailed

With War of the Worlds winning.

F*cking IMDB screwing me over with their non-USA release date titles.
Shows though, that 05 was really not such a good year, if that's being omitted...of the last 15 years it's either 05 or 12 as the worst year in movies.

I understand that you may not have heard of it because we NEVER mention it on this forum, but a little site called Box Office Mojo exists with all the release date and box officey goodness you'll ever need. Try using it. ;)

Oh..you mean "BOM", yeah I stayed away from that because "Bom" means "Bomb" in Dutch, so I'm assuming it's some terrorist DIY bomb making site.

Actually, I would give the Best Picture to King Kong. Even though I personally prefer War of the Worlds as a cinematic experience.

I thought 2005 was a great year. In addition to the five films I mentioned above, I could shower hypothetical laurels on:

2046
Breakfast on Pluto
Brokeback Mountain
The Constant Gardener
Domino
Kings & Queen
Lord of War
Munich
Oliver Twist
Yes

And The Proposition, though this is on my 2006 top ten because of its U.S. release date.
