Awlful. It really made absolute no sense to me...and not in a good David Lynch-eque way. I got everything alright, it just made no sense as to why they where going some places, showing some scenes, etc. Carey can do drama, but he did not pull this off well.

The general concept of the movie is great but the story was just awful and all over the place. And the twist was rather lame.

I really enjoyed it, but I can understand why most people didn't. I think it was very compelling and, contrary to most thoughts, clean and focused. I think the twist was a bit too far out of left field, but it still worked. B

The Number 23

The first 15 minutes were quite good, it set a foundation for what could have been a good movie, but then the ending was revealed to me. I just flat out knew that Carrey was the writer of the book (and therefore the murderer). The next hour and 25 minutes was boring. While Jim Carrey acted well throughout, there was nothing gripping in the movie. All of the other performances were either not special or they were hidden by a dreamy camera technique that was off-putting and dark. I liked how the name "Topsy Kretts" is, I assume, meant to sound like "Top Secrets", yet it's never eluded to in the movie.

I'm disappointed in Jim Carrey for choosing to star in this. I expected much more and have been wanting to see this since it was released. All of Carrey's good acting non-comedy roles have been wasted in bad movies; this, The Truman Show, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Man on the Moon.

I way overvalued this when I first saw it. ;) Though I still enjoy it in a certain way. It is fun, over-the-top, and sleazy.

Wow, yes, you gave it an "A" before. What would you give it now?

I think The Incredible Burt Wonderstone is Carrey's last straw. If it's not good, then I'll write him off as only being good up until 2003.

I love him and most of his recent efforts. The Truman Show is one of my favorite films ever. I also adore Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and A Christmas Carol.

I do believe the Ace Ventura version of Jim Carrey is gone, though. He has evolved and grown more subtle, which is why I am honestly a bit relieved the Dumb & Dumber sequel is canceled.

Yep, it is gone, but sadly there's nothing to replace it. A Christmas Carol is a fantastic movie, but before that his last good one was Bruce Almighty. His new film doesn't look very funny either. He's a nice bloke, and on chat shows he's always a laugh, I just wish he'd try and translate that to the screen.

It is a shame you are not a fan of The Truman Show. Not to gush, but I find it to be such a beautiful movie: disturbing, fresh, hilarious, and even inspirational, in equal measure.

It's not terrible, but it's not the Jim Carrey I wanted to see back in 1998. That was the peak of his comedy fame. I was utterly disappointed leaving the cinema and I haven't bothered watching it since. I'm not over it yet.

Wow, this film is all over the place, a lot of hate, some love too, average then overall. I really quite liked this actually, B/B+ level. The beginning really is ace, and it does get a bit over the top, I enjoyed how it got deeper, and also how it came together in the end. I just watched the trailer again, and that really just doesn't do it justice. It's a good thriller I'd recommend to anyone.
