Sunday is up over Saturday as usual so far, and even Kamen Rider is up slightly. Sunday evening/night business isn't as strong as Saturday, but at this rate it'll have a significant lead to counter that. A record weekend is looking more and more likely.

This weekend, instead of having % changes next to the hourly admission updates, I'm going to list each individual film's ranking at that point-in-time instead.
Notes:
Jurassic World is doing incredible. It'll easily exceed 250,000 here, maybe even 275,000, which could get it over 600,000 admissions over the weekend and give it a real shot at ¥900 million debut. Biggest debut for a live-action Hollywood film since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 is incredibly likely, and JW opened on Wednesday.
Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation will be overshadowed as a result, however, it's doing very, very well, too. It'll break 200,000 here, making it possible for over 450,000 admissions over the weekend and a chance of landing a ¥600 million debut. Ghost Protocol opened to ¥572.9 million, so that should be the target.
Boruto: Naruto the Movie is even surprising this weekend as it could hit 300,000 admissions and possibly as much as a ¥400 million debut, itself.
And all the holdovers are doing great as well, aside from Attack on Titan's sharp decline, despite screen/showtime losses and major competition.
There's actually a chance the Top 10 films could reach ¥3.5 billion, which would make it the second biggest weekend of all-time! I can't wait to do the estimates tomorrow morning.

>Jurassic World's estimated admissions are just shy of 600,000 (591,000), which puts it on the cusp of a ¥900 million debut, by far the best debut for live-action Hollywood film since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2.
Its 3D share looked reasonable (maybe 40%), and since it played well in the evening (suggesting it's not skewing too young), its avg. ticket price should be pretty high. This is an incredible opening weekend, especially since it opened on Wednesday. And speaking of which, its 3-day total certainly exceeded ¥1.5 billion, and I even get over ¥1.6 billion ($13 million+.
An opening of this magnitude right before a major holiday week, Obon Festival, is very significant and Jurassic World should be in for a very, very nice week. The Boy and the Beast finally has a serious challenger for its Summer Crown. A total over ¥5 billion ($40 million) should be the minimum, and we should be looking at a total more like ¥7 billion ($55-60 million). I'll post a Jurassic Park box-office history in a couple days, after the weekend actuals for the new film is released.
>Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation has to settle for second place, but its debut is also very impressive. The estimated weekend admissions are about 450,000, which should be enough for a ¥600 million start. That'd give it a 5% higher debut than its predecessor, Ghost Protocol.
As I've mentioned all weekend, every Mission: Impossible film has grossed over ¥5 billion, the blockbuster milestone in the market, so the debut for Rogue Nation is very promising in hopes of achieving said milestone, once again.
>Boruto: Naruto the Movie appears to have out-opened every Naruto film besides last year's, The Last: Naruto the Movie, and it may have come close to that if it hadn't opened on Friday. Its 3-day total should be above that of the last Naruto film, and with Obon Festival, perhaps Boruto can reach a similar total of ¥2 billion.
>Kamen Rider looks to debut right around that ¥200 million mark, which the franchise has been consistently aiming for over the past year or two. I believe it just out-opened the film released during the spring, but only just, so I don't know if this one will bring the franchise back over the ¥1 billion total milestone. It'll be close.
And after all the impressive debuts and mostly good holds from the holdovers are accounted for, this weekend easily set the August Weekend Record. And more importantly with an estimated Top 10 total of ¥3.308 billion, it's very, very close to breaking into the Top 5 Biggest Weekends of All-Time:Biggest All-Time Weekends (Top 10 Films) [1998-]01. ¥3.601 billion - 07/09-10/2005 (#1 Film - Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith) 02. ¥3.427 billion - 05/03-04/2014 (#1 Film - Frozen) 03. ¥3.423 billion - 07/19-20/2003 (#1 Film - Bayside Shakedown: Save the Rainbow Bridge!) 04. ¥3.329 billion - 07/21-22/2007 (#1 Film - Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix) 05. ¥3.314 billion - 07/22-23/2006 (#1 Film - Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest) ¥3.308 billion [Est.] - 08/08-09/2015 (#1 Film - Jurassic World) 06. ¥3.160 billion - 04/17-18/2010 (#1 Film - Alice in Wonderland) 07. ¥3.129 billion - 04/18-19/2015 (#1 Film - Dragon Ball Z: Revival of F) 08. ¥3.048 billion - 07/21-22/2001 (#1 Film - Spirited Away) 09. ¥3.046 billion - 12/20-21/2014 (#1 Film - Yo-Kai Watch: It's the Secret of Birth, Nyan!) 10. ¥2.963 billion - 07/17-18/2010 (#1 Film - Arrietty) 11. ¥2.960 billion - 07/18-19/2009 (#1 Film - Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) 12. ¥2.917 billion - 07/10-11/2010 (#1 Film - Toy Story 3)

Re: Japan Box Office: WKND Estimates (One of the Biggest Eve
It's also worth mentioning that the Top 10 you see above will be the same films you see for nearly the entire month.
There aren't any wide openers until August 28th this year. All the studios released their tentpoles in July or early August this year to take advantage of Summer Vacation, but more importantly, of Obon Festival this upcoming week.

Re: Japan Box Office: WKND Estimates (One of the Biggest Eve
Should be aiming for ¥7 billion ($55-60 million), but it could inch closer to ¥8 billion ($65 million), I believe.
That would have gotten it near $100 million just a couple years ago, but the exchange rate is incredibly unfavorable this year (almost hit a 17-year low last week).

Re: Japan Box Office: WKND Estimates (One of the Biggest Eve
Yeah, USD totals this year aren't very good as a result and don't represent how well the 2015 box office is actually doing.
There have been many records broken in local currency and admissions over the past 9 months, including the August weekend record this week. And as long as the Fall box office season is strong, 2015 can beat 2014 (despite Frozen) and achieve the third biggest box office year ever (local currency).

Dr.D wrote: Why could LoveLive get over ¥2.2 billion with only 121 screens? How high is its attendance rate? It has sold 1,556,176 tickets as of the 8th weekend. The thing with LL compared to say something like Idolmaster, is how wide its fanbase is. I'm sure you know that the LL mobile rhythm game has over 11 million players in Japan (16 million players worldwide), and has a male to female player ratio of 49.9:50.1. Just the virtue of advertising the movie by changing the title screen, and featuring the PVs in news posts in game, gave it an insane amount of advertisement. Even if just 1 million of those players ended up watching the movie at least once, that is a big victory for the franchise. Take a look at the Best Live collection album sales, which was released on January 9th, 2013 (a few days after the 1st season ep1 aired). Sure the 2 anime seasons provided it some boosts, but it would've never charted for 134 (this is not a typo) consecutive weeks and still counting on the Oricon album chart without the mobile game giving it continuous advertisement. *9,090 130,179 134 μ's Best Album Best Live! collection 13/01/09 [Gold disc certification from the RIAJ in Jun 2014] I know the LL movie has any many visitor benefits, but it is not like the Madoka, K-ON and Idolmaster did not have many as well. Look at how low Idolmaster did with even more visitor benefits than LL. Visitor benefits is not the only thing that spells success, as advertisement and word of mouth can make such a huge difference in terms of success. Also today, the RIAJ has gold certified another 3 LL CDs for the month of July, to join the other 5 already gold certified. I know K-ON! also has had at least 8 gold disc certifications from the RIAJ, so it is not by luck that LL did so well at the box office. 僕たちはひとつの光/Future style by μ's/1年生: http://riaj.or.jp/data/others/gold/201507.htmlSUNNY DAY SONG/?←HEARTBEAT by μ's/3年生: http://riaj.or.jp/data/others/gold/201507.htmlAngelic Angel/Hello,星を数えて by μ's/2年生: http://riaj.or.jp/data/others/gold/201507.htmlμ's Best Album Best Live! mark66 wrote: Is the Obon Holiday usually in July? No, it's mid-August and began today (Monday) and lasts all week. It's probably going to be the biggest week of all-time considering we just had the fourth biggest weekend of all-time.

I was just wondering, because 7 of the 12 biggest weekends were in July...

New August Weekend Record and 4th Biggest Weekend of All-Time!
>Jurassic World delivered the biggest debut for a live-action film since Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends from last September, and the biggest debut for a live-action Hollywood film since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 from 2011.
The fourth dino adventure sold 544,759 admissions across 802 screens over the weekend frame, and exceeded 1 million admissions (1,073,326) after five days in release.
It's guaranteed to gross north of the ¥5 billion (~$40 million) blockbuster milestone by opening this high, and since it's just before Obon Festival which will give it a major boost to its performance, the long-awaited return to Jurassic Park should be targeting a total of ¥7 billion (~$60 million) or more. If it reaches this goal, it would result in an impressive 30-35% increase of Jurassic Part III's total from 2003.
**********
>Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation had to settle for a second place debut, but its opening weekend saw a 1% increase over Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol. The fifth installment in the blockbuster franchise sold 427,281 tickets over the weekend on 600 screens. This brought its 3-day total above an impressive 570,000 admissions.
The latest Mission: Impossible film should once again reach the ¥5 billion (~$40 million) blockbuster milestone that each film in this franchise has grossed in the past.
**********
>Boruto: Naruto the Movie delivered the second biggest opening in the Naruto film series, selling 305,396 tickets on 268 screens over the weekend. And with its 3-day admissions exceeding 510,000, it achieved the highest 3-day total in the franchise history.
The first sequel film in the Naruto series will be frontloaded, but with the support of Obon Festival, should be capable of exceeding the ¥2 billion milestone, thus becoming the highest-grossing film in the franchise.
**********
>Kamen Rider Drive The Movie: Surprise Drive bested the debuts of the last two Kamen Rider films from earlier this year, ending the downward spiral the series was experiencing, and considering the level of competition in theaters at the moment, the debut is quite impressive.
The installment sold 171,297 tickets over the weekend across 297 screens. The debut may still not be enough to get the give the long running franchise another ¥1 billion earner, but it'll have a fair chance.
**********
>Japan's Longest Day (or The Emperor in August), the remake of the 1967 film, rounded out the record Top 10 in its debut. Playing across 210 screens, it sold 114,589 admissions over the weekend.
The debut is fairly average, and the 10th place debut looks bad, but not so much when you take into consideration how many tentpoles were released in the past 5 weeks. It's also likely to be, possibly, the leggiest film this Summer, so I wouldn't rule out a total of ¥1.5 billion or more.
