New Terminator Sequel - Predictions
This might even be a prequel or reboot or remake...but it's slated for May 19, 2017, and what are the predictions?

Re: New Terminator Sequel - Predictions
It won't happen. I don't see paramount putting money into a sequel that will make less money.

Re: New Terminator Sequel - Predictions
Ironically Genysis will turn a much larger profit than both T3 and Salvation. Domestically it seems done. I could see the rest doing 85-120 but overseas will be the meal ticket.
At this point the series desperately needs continuity. Another reboot will destroy it so soon. Add in a major co star and it should be fine.

Re: New Terminator Sequel - Predictions
Even with China I see the new TG getting to "only" $350m WW on a $150m budget. They needed close to $400m WW to make money from theatrical release.
Unless it breaks out huge in China or they decide to make the new one with even lesser budget...I don't see how that happening....I don't think this will happen.

Re: New Terminator Sequel - Predictions
I'd say right now the sequels are unlikely to happen. Those dates were optimistically made a year ago (nice jinx, guys).
However, Genisys just got a date for a China release at the end of August. If it does very well there, that could give them the confidence to push it forward. Perhaps add a Chinese character a la Transformers.

You realize T3 and 4 barely broke even. Genysis making 75 million in profit is actually good in retrospect. I actually think it'll be higher though. Even with holdovers, T5 is looking at about 330 million WW. There's a couple of other decent markets still to come too. As said. Without continuity the franchise is done. Maybe Courtney in SS will actually elevate him. Add in a solid A-list villain or other character is what the series needs. Also getting through all the rehash crap gives the series a chance to actually evolve for a change.

Re: New Terminator Sequel - Predictions
Hmm true both T3 and T4 would not have earned money from the theatrical release only and they cut the budget this time around as well so maybe they are crazy enough to do another sequel but I highly doubt that would increase.

Hopefully $0 worldwide. It's the only way they'll learn.

Re: New Terminator Sequel - Predictions
TG is a loss. Dont forget marketing. Any Big budget blockbuster has > 100m for marketing and then other ancillary cost like interest for loan etc. No way studio makes another one in the near future with the same cast. It does not have anything new to sell and china ROI is poor enough to warrant a sequel. Plus domestic will keep going down. Dont forget this had atrocious reception

Re: New Terminator Sequel - Predictions
They likely got a few million for product placements. I'm not suggesting that pushes it into the black, but we usually forget that. Or are they already deducted and the "production cost" figures given out are with that deduction?

Dont forget this had atrocious reception I believe domestic can go a little higher again IF they find the right balance of what audience are looking in this franchise though I agree overall this needs to rest and reboot after maybe 15-20 years

Re: New Terminator Sequel - Predictions
Domestic won't increase. The audience are not looking for the "right balance", they are just not looking for this franchise at all.
Just let it die. No reboot. No remake. No reimagining. No prequel. No spinoff. Nothing.
It is an obsolete franchise, unable to make itself relevant again.

Re: New Terminator Sequel - Predictions
If they add the Rock and get Arnie back, it will be a large scale hit. $200m+.
TG was received better than T3 and T4.

We will never see the vengeance of Skynet as played by the former Doctor Who actor with a misshapen face.

Re: New Terminator Sequel - Predictions
Terminator Genisys had to overcome the aftermath of the disaster of TERMINATOR SALVATION and ( wrongfully ) poor review by US film critics and also the overperforming box office of mediocre Jurassic World to get to the projected worldwide box office number of $450 million. Arnold as an old robot is accepted by all and the VFX groundwork for the next 2 sequels are mapped out in this part. So, it will be unwise for PARAMOUNT to not to do the proposed sequels. All they have to do is to tighten the scripts a little more and keep the total budgets of the 2 sequels to $300 million. And as the 2 sequels will be shot simultaneously then the ancillary costs will be less.

I would not put it past the Chinese to give this film a $150+ million gross...

From Cameron? I saw something midweek about Cameron "overseeing" a possible new Terminator film, but actually directing it, I really doubt that.
