The success of the 2 generations phenomenon JURASSIC WORLD makes me wonder what a 3 generations phenomenon like STAR WARS will do...

One thing seems certain to me, the 2nd weekend record of JW will be history 6 months from now...

I made a $20 bet that this wouldn't out open JW.

Easiest $20 I'll ever make.

That's a tough one in December, that's why I said JW's 2nd weekend record will be gone in 6 months...

I think there will be an 84 million difference between JW and Star Wars OWs. More or less is for you to decide.

It makes sense. They watched JP when they were kids because that's what was big in the early 90's and that's what they have nostalgia for.

But it probably won't, actually.

If TFA opens on a Friday I'll bet you $20 it beats JW OW record. :D

Don't need. Need an understanding of how these things work.

SW was still huge with 90's kids, no doubt. It just was not as big as Jurassic Park was.

Come on guys this one is easy one to predict

Actually, there is b.o. data:
The beloved JURASSIC PARK did $45m in its 3D re-release, while the hated PHANTOM MENACE did $44m... That's really a huuuuuuuuuge upset...

There will be box office data in 6 months.

SW never felt like something that belongs to the 1990s. It wasn't new. SW really belongs to the fans from the late 70s and early 80s who were around at its inception. JP belonged to the 90s kids.

Human psychology plays a big part of ones emotional attachment to a property, you'll see in December when SW is huge but clearly not on JW's level.

I have 9 nieces and nephews born between 1984 and 2005, each and everyone loves SW and all the boys love JP.
And each and everyone will go see SW come December, in addition my 79 year old dad will go too...

It is the difference between normal college kids, high schoolers, and young adults not feeling weird saying to others that they're going to see a Jurassic World and feeling weird when they tell others they're going to see Star Wars.

The bond between consumer and property just isn't as strong with that age market.

Now that's a stupid thing to say. As soon as the marketing campaign is in full swing, people who say they're not going to see STAR WARS will be the odd ones out there...

I work with the public and I see 100s of people a day. Over that day I see multiple Star Wars shirts a day, some by adults but more by kids and teens. I have only seen 2 Jurrasic Park shirts over that same time period. I just think Star Wars is huge with three generations of people.

SW is huge. But geeks vastly overstate it's coolness factor among modern mainstream America. Soryr but its painfully true.

It is going to be a huge hit, but nowhere near 208m in december huge. Maybe 140-150 with a nice leggy run to the mid 500s, maybe.
