After the Sunset C Not bad, but really damn empty and lacking any substance. And Don Cheadle is totally useless in the movie, almost insulting so.

Yeah, I would usually like this type of movie, but I was disappointed.

I watched:

High Tension (4.5/5) -
The best horror movie in years. Seriously intense stuff.

Collateral (2/5)
Really dissapointing. Meh' action sequences. Underuse of Jada Pinkett Smith, Just...Boring.

21 Grams (4/5)
Some of the best performances of 2003....Naomi Watts is truly terrific. Believable, Hard hitting mini masterpeice.

Closer - 5.6/10 - Disappointed. Portman and Owen were good, Roberts and Law were not. The entire film was not so much depressing, but rather pointless IMO.

Sin City - 7.9/10 - Lived up to my high expectiations.

I, Robot - Third viewing - 8.7/10 up from 8.2/10. Wow, I liked this movie the first two times, but this time is just blew me away. I now see there was a good reason I nominated this film for nearly everything at the KJ awards. Since the summer, my attitude towards this film has kept improving. It has really stayed with me, yet, before viewing it again this week, I began to think that I had overrated it. This film does have its weaknesses, which was why I originally gave it a 8.2/10. However, the pure brilliance of the rest of the film IMO overshadows it. I now move it up to my 4th favorite of last year.

After the Sunset: C
A very "meh" movie.

Being Julia: B
The movie was solid and not great, but Annette Bening was fantastic. Her nomination was deserved.

Lord Of The Rings: Return Of The King

FIRST viewing.

I HATED the FELLOWSHIP, one of my all time worst. Liked TWO TOWERS. But yeah, it was a very exhilerating film. Well the second half was. Some of the story was plodding, and the farewells and tearful good byes dragged a bit.

But it managed to send shivers of exhileration, hope and happiness up my arms many times.

The best of the bunch.

3.5/5

What the #$*! Do We Know!? - D+

The issues brought up by the film are well worth discussing and exploring. Some of the interviews provide really thought-provoking ideas about the concept of reality. Unfortuantely, the "storyline" that takes place in between the interview segments was amateurly put together. The Academy Awards should retract the Oscar it gave to Marlee Matlin for her delivering such a poor performance in this film. There were some incredibly cheesy scenes (the basketball, wedding, and mirror scenes, in particular) that completely destroy the credibilty and seriousness of the ideas being explored. The special effects/cartoony sequences are some of the worst ever put on film; not only did some of these sequences serve no purpose, but they were so juvenille and idiotic that they became offensive. By the time the movie reaches its conclusion, we realize we just wasted 100 minutes watching maybe twenty minutes of actual substance, 80 minutes of trash.

Odd Girl Out- A

This movie was moving, and inspirational. If you want Mean Girls without the comedy, this movie will satisfy you. Alexa Vega plays Vanessa, a girl that is verbally abused by the very girls that were once her friends. Soon she resorts to changing her self image in hopes that she will be accepted, but it just complicates things, and she soon attempts to commit suicide. Ater her attempy fails, she goes back to school, and faces her fears, and confronts her nemesis Stacey, who claims that she is her friend, but in the end proves to be fake, and ugly inside. Lisa Vidal plays Vanessa's mother, and she is very good in her role. I was blown away by how genuine this film was. It just shows how peer pressure can really make your life a living hell, and make you do things you would never expect yourself to do. I related to a lot of the characters, and this film really got me attached. By the end of the film I was crying, and I just think this is a movie everyone should see that is dealing, or has dealed with the horrors of Middle or High School bullying.

To anyone that would like to watch this movie, its a made for television presentation, and her are the only future showtimes I could find for it, and its on the Lifetime Channel.

The Upside of Anger B Damnit, I REALLY wanted to love this movie. However, while it was very well done and the ending was strong, I was completely underwhelmed by Joan Allen. There's a level in which having your central character be a nasty bitter person works. Having a secondary character is even better. But Joan Allen was so thoroughly nasty and meanspirited that even at the end all that changed was I pitied her instead of simply not being able to stand her. Maybe if I didn't have relatives just like her it would've helped, but she just felt like nails on a chalkboard. I know she's not supposed to by sympathetic, but while Allen is good the role was simply too cartoony and shockingly nasty that I couldn't really buy it. That aside, as a film it featured symbolism and underlying values which I heavily appreciated, in particular Popeye's speechs on anger and how it can twist us. All four of the daughters were very good, and Kevin Costner hasn't been this good in a movie for over a decade. But going back to Allen, I just couldn't buy him having any interest in such a nasty meanspirited ice queen. Mike Binder's performance was also well done, and it was nice to see a director cast himself as the most unlikable and not especially showy role. And once again, props to that ending, it definitely caught me offguard and made my grade for the film go from a C+ to a B bordering on B+. But I guess I just thought it'd be a more likable movie then the end result, which was very well directed but had a killer downside with Allen's character.

Wow. What an amazing movie. I'm literally speechless. Powerful and amazing performances by Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. The ending just blew me away. This movie is easily one of the best things I've ever seen. Just... wow.

The Ring Two 8.5/10

Wasn't let down by this sequel at all. Fantastic set peices, nice original sub stories. Great performances from Naomi Watts, Elizabeth Perkins and Sissy Spacek. Creepy ass Samara is just as scary as ever.

Audience loved it aswell.
