April Fools Q&A
As you know, Eagle deleted the April Fools forum. I believe that the issue isn't completely clear and while I didn't create this thread to worsen things, I thought all of you should have the opportunity to ask questions for clarification. Although some of you want to just forget about it all, there's still a number of people discussing it all over different forums.
I don't know who will participate in this thread (I will), but this is your chance to ask questions about everything that happened and (I hope) get an answer.

He shouldnt of deleted them all.
Not all of them did deal with the mods joke, and they should of stayed.

Didn't you get the memo, on April Fool's you can do whatever you want, becuase the calendar says so.

Here's a few questions:
How could a collection of so many intelligent individuals ever be stupid enough to go through with that pregnancy prank? Why was there such a serious collective slip in moral judgement? Did it ever occur to anyone involved that it might have been a really, really bad idea? Are you guys idiots?
I'm with Ripper on next year's "prank"

I wasn't part of that original prank but let me take a stab at answering: because they planned and expected it to be mostly interaction among themselves, a play if you will, for others to watch. What they didn't anticipate (IMO) is how many people would dive in and get involved who were not part of the script.
I guess they simply underestimated how many people give a crap about Zing's personal life.

I think it just didn't it was only because of Z's personal life as lots of people were debating different subjects.
Plus some inside people seemed to be bating / fueling the fire.
And then add to it that - the responsibility / abortion and the Z be a man talk all came out in the first day. It is easy to see what happened.
Also, if your guess was true that it would be played out with everyone watching - that again is a very naive feeling from the organizers as people in general and especially on the internet - love to get into it.
*****************************
Also on this thread - as we are still in the same weekend, only 2 days past April Fools day - which is less than the whole PRANK AND STORY ran from start to finish - it is still on people's minds.
*****************************
For example - I wonder will it make it all the way to the poster awards and be the Memorable Event winner??????????

Not big enough - as hi-jacking goes on all of the time here.
****************
You need to get something bigger going as I heard one of the organizers say that they still have the A card for next year.
So I guess this was the small potatoes to next year's BIG EVENT.
So you have to think much bigger than that.

That's not true. We realize the members have a different sentiment towards this, and we listened. It is your forums afterall, we just work for you. When there was a disagreement about this, it is the forum members opinions that go above the mods and that's why we've decided to put a new mod in that shares the members opinions and will help everyone re-establish confidence that the moderation really is here to support the members.

Whatever your feelings are on the prank, I think we can all agree the real april fool this year was Squee. God rest her soul.
I think it's time to put this to rest now. Some people got together to pull an elaborate prank (and didn't include me), and it backfired. Sure it may have been in bad taste (hindsight's 20/20), but there's no use in going on about it. Hopefully everyone has learned a valuable lesson, so next year the abortion issue will be avoided entirely and the pranksters will go with a less potentially offensive Fool (and perhaps include Snrub in the shenanigans). My vote's for baba getting AIDS!

Why not just come and say what some people have said already (like Tony and Loyal), they had fun doing, they thought it was funny and they'd do it again. that is far less condescending then "we never thought it woudl turn out this way." dolcevita wrote: Ripper wrote: Didn't you get the memo, on April Fool's you can do whatever you want, becuase the calendar says so.

I said in the now unreadable April Fool's forum to baba they you could not expect the prank to happen where rule breaking is encouraged, in the same week as new rule and not undermine your authority. You're the one who said in response, that yes you could, that it was April Fools, and if normally good memers broke the rules as a joke it was ok. A read teh comment as you get carte blanche as long asyou cry, the calendar made me do it after.
So while you may have listened after the fact, I was told, hey we can break our own rules as can anyone else, as long as the calendar reads April 1st, or in this case the week of April 1st.
I didn't pull my comment out of thin air.

You didn't, I concur. Many people didn't agree, and I'm not going to put you or anyone else in a position where they don't respect the mods. I said what I thought, and then let someone with a similar approach take over. there's nothing wrong in that. I don't think you, or anyone else should change their mind about it. I agreed. Its not a black and white situation where someone needs to convince someone else or there is an impasse. People said MODs should be held to an upper level at all times, and I challenge anyone to find a single fault in the new mod. Just because I disagree, doesn't mean I'm going to force that on anyone's head. They don't deserve it.
At the same time, and this is not directed at Ripper but at everyone whose comments I have read over the days. I should hope that this situation is the exception that proves the norm, rather than being considered the precedence for it. Everyone has worked diligently and intensely on building the site up for all the members. We had put weeks of energy and hundreds of pages of literature into the site whilst managing three server changes and redesigning the site numerous times. We groomed threads, provided info, and did our best (which wasn't always perfect but was an attempt) to handle any tough situations. I personally refuse to stand by and continue to hear dozens of people accuse the admin and mods of being selfish, useless, corrupt, chronically deceptive people that are morally bankrupt for one error in judgement that they already apologized for.
You guys wanted loose rules we gave loose rules. You guys wanted tougher rules, bABA and Eagle spent a long time redrafting the rules. You guys wanted forum names changed, front page updates, every person that one persona disagree with to be handled by another person, and all these things we have done for everyone for months. I don't think anyone needs to be happy, but I think its unfair to those who have busted their butts here and tried to hold themselves to very high standards to have everything they have done be retroactively tainted and their future characters assumed to be worse than dirt. Its just not true, they are all great, honest, and hard working forum members.

I have a question. Why is this so important as to continue talking about it and wasting forum space and spreading negative vibes throughout the forum?
Guys and gals, some things just have to be let go. This, in my opinion, is one of them.

I agree. Everyone involved with the gag has apologised profusely, everyone hurt by the gag isn't likely to be magically healed anytime soon. It's best just to let it and hope the wounds will heal...
I can't, however, agree with your "negative vibes" comment on account of it being a bit too hippy for my liking.

The only stupidity on my end was thinking posters at KJ would have a sense of humour beyond fart jokes.
As for a slip in moral judgement, clearly I have no morals.
Like Ripper pointed out, I had fun doing it, I thought it was funny, and I'd do it again in a second.
I suggest any thin-skinned, dogma loving posters avoid the weeks prior to and following April 1st, 2006.

Agreed. I already moved on, being the one right in the middle of all things when they unfolded Wednesday afternoon (still remember myself refreshing every 5 seconds to try to figure out what was happening ](*,) ; I think I'm the one who got tricked by every prank there was at the time).

Which I can respect, if you want to play a prank then afterwards just say, yeah I thought it was funny, that's why I did it. that's the whole point, but all of this, we thought we coudl control it stuff is worse. It implies that those of us nto in on the joke are so stupid that we'd not take ethe topic seriously and tell sing, oh well good luck with it then.
My problem with the situation reallit isn't prank so much as the stuff the happened after.

Anyone who is questioning the answers in this thread, it is because this thread was established to give us a place to talk.
We are putting our faith in the MODS again.
*********************
My biggest problem was that some said the abortion take off was never suppose to happen.
***Well then why was it discussed in the original conversation between T & Z.***
It was set up - sitting there waiting to be talked about.
And then it became a heated discussion on the first day that was never stopped.
*********************
And then it was egged on by some insiders.

I'm with Ripper on next year's "prank"
While you're hitting us with a rhetorical question, I'll attempt to answer it anyways.
I wont deny it - I completely defended the prank and, asides from a few concerns that I didn't consider mentioning, I didn't think the result would be that bad. I won't assume anything about the other mods, but, internally, I did not think about how big an issue pregnancy was. I disregarded makeshift's warnings that it could potentially anger many people and, well, that it wasn't even funny. I liked the idea of, on April 1st, being able to say "Haha bitches. April fools, you gullible twats." The deisre to reveal something that many of you would (we hoped) accept overtook any rationality. I didn't think to myself and say "Look, this is 100% power abuse." And, that's what it was. April fools or not, we had no real right to abuse the members as we did. We abused our own rules for the sake of getting the rest of you to feel sympathy for a teenager. I honestly don't know how most of us just decided to accept the idea. I'd argue that we wanted to do something and Eagle's plan was easy to handle, but, alas, I don't know if other mods and the four others involved personally found it funny or just found it a challenge that, if done right, would fool.
