There are many people including myself who were looking forward to Civil War more than Ultron. BO wise it will likely get within 5-10% of Ultron.

Audiences are not going to flock out in record breaking fashion for a Man of Steel sequel that stars a batman audiences have no attachment to directed by a director who always makes mediocre at best films.

fixed.

They clearly care about him more than Spider-man, while they also care more about Batman than any of the Avengers put together.

GA don't give a fuck about the director unless it's a HUGE name. MOS 2 would have done fine on it's own but it wouldn't have moved up the level they were hoping it would.

Doesn't change the fact that a new batman is not in the same stratosphere of chris Nolan's.

As proven by the box office that the new Batman has racked up.

1) You don't know that.

2) Even if it is true, that character would have set the record for OW admissions twice. So what is that statement really saying?

"Oh, he isn't that good at basketball because he isn't as good as Michael Jordan. He's only as good as LeBron James."

Are you saying a solo Batfleck film would open to 150 million?

Are you kidding?

With 3D? Without question.

The difference in admissions for TDKR and IM3 - even with the shooting - was huge in TDKR's favor. If you think a Bat film is doing less than whatever Iron Man does, you're crazy.

Audiences are tired of bat man. We've already had 4. As evidenced by batman begins, a New bat man isn't guaranteed blockbuster levels. That was hurt by Bat and robin, but a solo batfleck film would likely not open to 100 million.

Maybe 100 is too low, but I could definitely see an amazing spider man situation.

Sorry for that. Maybe that was a bit too low, but I definitely don't think a reboot Batman would get near 150 after how Batman Begins performed. Maybe MOS numbers. But is the world really clamoring for another Batman franchise at this point...at all?

I'm not trying to be an asshole, but you do know Batman Begins sold more tickets than MAN OF STEEL, right? It had a much weaker opening & MOS likely would have outsold it had the 2nd weekend competition not been ridiculous. But all the same, it seems clear you have no idea what you are talking about.

"Audiences are tired of Batman"

There has been one Batman film in the last 7 1/2 years (though yes, THE DARK KNIGHT is the most popular and influential film of the new millennium which cast an enormous shadow over the entire blockbuster section of movie making, so even though it's actually nearing 7 years old, it still feels like it came recently.)

There's pretty much no sign his popularity has waned. The Dark Knight is widely considered to have sold the most tickets ever on an opening weekend, and TDKR almost certainly would have topped it had there been no shooting. That stat speaks for itself.

Sure, the loss of Bale and loss of Nolan hurts it a bit, but that isn't saying anything. The character is an absolute mega star. And while I would not go so far as to say that Bale or Nolan would have hurt the role down the line, I think what Snyder is doing - making this Bruce Wayne and Batman dramatically different from the Bale version - is exactly what he needs to do to ensure the character remains cool and fresh. I think another 3 or 4 films with Bale/Nolan would without question get stale, which of course Nolan and Bale - being artists of very high integrity - realized.

If you want a character non fanboys are truly getting tired of - after Spider-man, obviously - look no further than the other big hero in CAPTAIN AMERICA CIVIL WAR besides the title character.

I dont think audience care that much about supes. But seeing bats and supes in one movie will draw in general audience. These 2 characters are part of pop culture longer than Marvel even existed. Both of them are among top 25 most used passwords globally !!!

http://splashdata.com/press/worst-passwords-of-2014.htm

on lack of bale or nolan, dont forget Batman forever broke OW record despite keaton and burton leaving the franchise. So character transcends any particular actor or director.

That said I dont see it break OW record for simple reason buzz for this wont be that great. Its not going to get out of the world reviews ahead to get buzz at fever pitch leading to release. But 175m OW should happen just from having bats, supes and WW together in one movie.

The big difference is Spiderman was movie number 5 in 11 summers. MOS was an obviously new take on Superman. Franchise fatigue really hurt Spiderman 2 before we knew the movie sucked. I don't think Superman has that problem.

Audiences aren't close to as "over" Superman as they are Spider-man, no way.

But then you have to realize that both Superman and Spiderman are on different territories here so I don't think Spider-Man becomes less relevent than Super-Man at this point.
