 Re: Black Swan
this movie still holds up well. Can't believe Aronofsky hasn't made a movie since this, wonder how Noah will turn out...

 Re: Black Swan
Fans of this should see Perfect Blue. I'm pretty sure it's on Netflix (or available online somewhere).
Aronofsky has said he wasn't influenced by Perfect Blue, but having met Satoshi Kon several years prior makes me wonder.

Perfect Blue > Black Swan, but both are great.

 Re: Black Swan
yeah this was definitely the best movie of its year. this thread is great too. I love how two people who both loved the film could go on and on arguing about something that has ultimately nothing to do with the film. haha. like you're really trying to defend the movie from one of its biggest fans because you are adamant it is meant to be read completely serious? lol

 Re: Black Swan
This movie was fucking awesome. First of all, the premise of a ballerina who goes insane due to the pressures is genius. I totally identified with her; ballet is not exactly the same as theater, but I have felt a lot of the emotions she felt, though not nearly to that extreme. The leads are great; Mila Kunis is more than a pretty face here, and Portman is deserving of the Oscar, though her rapidly fluctuating weight was distracting. I really thought she had gone off the deep end at the end and killed Lily; and when I found out that was a hallucination too, I was shocked again. This movie went so many interesting directions I was thoroughly on the edge of my seat the whole time. I definitely know the idea of oral sex disgusts me, but apparently you have to try it first.

Black Swan should be #1 on your queue

 Re: Black Swan
You know what would be an interesting movie marathon? Birdman, Black Swan, and then Perfect Blue

 Re: Black Swan
Finally watched this. Good, solid film, with a captivating presence to it at times. It's very well shot too. I never really got into the story and the characters, didn't feel like caring for it, but a good watch nonetheless. Portman is definitely transcending, and Kunis and Cassel fill in their roles really well too.

Black Swan
Not a fan of Aronofsky's work. Thought Requiem for a Dream was meh. Noah is ok but didn't live up to his reputation. The Wrestler was good, but not THAT good. Black Swan is his best film. I was surprised at just how scary it is. Psychologically, but also visually chilling. And the film just works. The crescendo of isolation and pressure and imagery and score and intensity in the finale is seized and earned so well. Portman is fantastic and totally deserved her Best Actress win (though it was a weak year, to be honest). Cassel is also brilliant.

One of my favorite films. I want to watch it again soon with a friend who hasn't seen it.

 Re: Black Swan
One of the reasons I perhaps didn't like it as much as I thought I would (or as much as its reputation demands) is because I've had the ending and main plot points spoiled on various comedy shows and such.
