 How Would Fast 8 Do?
So now we're getting an idea of Fast 7.
What would Fast 8 do if it moves forward. Universal absolutely will continue it in some form.
How do you think Fast 8 would do domestically and overseas?

Re: How Would Fast 8 Do?
It would probably still open with 100+ million but how far above that depends on who comes back. If the main cast stays and they add some other star then I say dropoff from 7 won't be that bad, but 7 is the series' peak.

Re: How Would Fast 8 Do?
Yeah agree 7 is the peak. The next one will do over 250 domestic though as long as the majority of the cast is back.

Re: How Would Fast 8 Do?
#7 will only be the peak imo domestically. I still think this has room to grow overseas. Heck, it is going to challenge $1 b with an unfavorable exchange rate!

Re: How Would Fast 8 Do?
Well "Fast 8" will not have any Paul Walker factor, plus people will get bored of these eventually, plus the fact that Diesel may not want to do another without Walker, plus The Rock might not be back either....If all of these come true, it means that I think it will open to $50m or so and finish with $155m.

And maybe a meteor will hit Universal, so this movie won't exist and will make $0m.

Re: How Would Fast 8 Do?
If they can get Helen Mirren like she wants - $500 million domestically, $2 billion WW.
Otherwise, a final total just above the sixth movie, unless they add 3D. I would love it if they didn't drag these out too much longer, but I know that's pretty much an impossibility as Universal's only consistent franchise ATM.

Re: How Would Fast 8 Do?
Now a drop is inevitale. he question is just how to soften it (other than another cast member dying) and for that they need to add someone to the cast that really matters (like The Rock did in Fast Five). Too bad Denzel Washington declined (he was up for Kurt Russell's role).
I guess a similar decline is in store as from TDK to TDKR. That will still put Fast & Furious 8 at around $280-285 mllion, which seems like a realistic range.

I hope they make one more. I love this franchise. All 7 films have been a joy ride.

Re: How Would Fast 8 Do?
Variety or The Hollywood Reporter (can't remember which) had a good article going over some of the obstacles this is facing yesterday:
- Multiple cast members need new deals. They didn't specify which (since Diesel wasn't mentioned, I'm assuming it's not him) but I'd imagine guys like Ludacris and Gibson probably signed three picture contracts with Fast Five, which would be up - Chris Morgan is not signed - James Wan was released from his contract. He has reconsidered and is now open to directing, but a whole new deal would need to be made for his return - Dwayne Johnson is on a picture-to-picture basis (which is fucking crazy). That's going to get expensive - All the newer cast members (most likely Russell, Statham and Nathalie Emmanuel) are locked in for multiple films - Universal is meeting with all the key players next week and will most likely announce a release date at Comic-Con

Re: How Would Fast 8 Do?
Well The Rock was never suppose to be in other sequels. Audiences loved him so much that they kept working him into the series. (His role is absolutely pointless in Furious 7, yet he clearly has the best lines outside of Russell)
Also don't forget that even if this does 1 billion dollars, it'll end up making less profits than 5 and 6, which both pulled.
I wonder what they are going to fill Walker's void. He's always been basically the lead of the series. Does Rock get upgraded to co lead, or do they try and bring Lucas into it, or bring someone entirely fresh to the series.

Yeahm that's bullshit, dude because it is not just gonna make $1 billion, but it will go well beyond that ($1.15-1.2 billion). Even with the delay and the reshoots, it cost no more than $100 million over Fast & Furious 6 (which was $160 million) and yet it will make up to $400 million more worldwide more worldwide and will definitely sell better in home video. And yet you believe it will yield less profit?

I agree re: Fast Five but bad on Universal for not getting him on a long-term contract with 6 or 7. As much as the F&F series needs him, he needs it just as much to keep his quote high on shit like Hercules or San Andreas. I really hope it's not Black replacing Walker. I've never seen Tokyo Drift, but the minute or so he was on-screen in Furious 7 was torture. He's like Forrest Gump without the charisma or Tom Hanks' movie star looks. A friend of mine who worked on 6 said it cost well over 200m (officially 160m) so 8 is probably going to be at least in the 250m range with all the new deals.

Re: How Would Fast 8 Do?
Fast 8 should just be Statham, The Rock, Mendes, Tyrese and Ludacris. That way Vin can take some time to grieve, and when he comes back in 9 it will kind of reproduce the gangs back together vibe that propelled Furious 4.

I think at one point they were burning almost 4 million a week just in delays (Actor/ crew holds, demolition delays). Something like 85 million more after his death. Then marketing and what not. I believe the shooting budget was at least 200 million too. 6 pulled in 400-600 WW in the green. I'm not saying Furious 7 can't do it, but with the data I have, even making 500 more WW doesn't make it much more a massive hit then the two before.

It was never confirmed (nor would I expect it would be) but early speculation was the the insurance payout was going to be something like 50m: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/f ... aim-706037
