Yeah this isn't opening below A1. I wouldn't be surprised if it did $30M+ from previews/midnights alone, infact I'm expecting it. Once Cinderella, Insurgent, and Furious 7 are out the way all attention is going to be on this movie.

They been starving for a major uber tentpole film for years.

Oh it's definitely opening below The Avengers, but the boxing match is not going to be the reason.

bullshit, record was smashed upon age of ultrons announcement, or better yet avengers assembles announcement.

The thing about the film is that unlike past mega openers even with a large opening day it will still make 120+ million on Saturday and Sunday combined.

This isn't the SB here which did over 50 times. Hell Game 1 of the Stanley Cup gets more viewers than that. 2 million people is a drop in a bucket.

That's 2 million TVs, probably way more people as people watch these fights in a group.

Same could be said about any sporting event. And as I said I consider boxing 6th at best. At this point Football, basketball, baseball, hockey, and soccer are all above it. Boxing is a dying sport for obvious reasons. And I don't think it will impact how much the Avengers make opening weekend. Besides the only sport that impacts movies really is football. The Avengers will still open to over 200 million. Not convinced about 250, but it will top the first one.

Folks have hyped Floyd vs. Manny for years. That will be a bigger pop culture event than Avengers 2 that weekend. That frankly isn't even arguable. Saturday's afternoon and even showing will suffer significantly due tot he fight.

Boxing has a negligible impact on B.O. regardless of who's on the card.

Boxing is the least popular of those, yes... For normal events.

This isn't a normal event. This is the most anticipated fight in a decade.

Who knows how much of an effect the fight will have, but it'll have SOME effect. Mayweather vs. Paquiao has been a fight that people have been waiting for. I live in an area with mostly Filipinos sop that's probably why I know the magnitude of the whole thing as I'd be oblivious too .

This is different. Avengers 2 will not be the most important event in pop culture for the weekend. Countless hours of free press the film would receive on any other weekend will be spent talking about the fight. People have talked about it for years.

It is what it is. Avengers 2 isn't the biggest deal of the weekend it opens. That is going to matter.

I mean, the first Avengers opened on the same weekend as a Mayweather fight...

When you have a movie that's going to sell out most showings, there aren't really "other times" to go see it.

It's not like this will even be prove-able. If it doesn't make $250 mil OW, I'm going to say I'm right. And if it does, I'm going to say it could've made $275 mil OW withouth the fight.

So the argument for you is already lost.
