 Re: (Boring) Weekend Estimates...
Speaking of those two movies... Who would have thought that Colin Firth would outopen Will Smith 2:1...

 Re: (Boring) Weekend Estimates...
A lack of big breakouts for Lazarus and DUFF will definitely help Cinderella and Divergent.
Focus got 2 million from IMAX, and 80+% of its audience was over 25.

American Sniper just keeps chugging along... Will it overtake Hunger on Friday or Saturday?

Yeah, I wish there were a list of films to hold the longest at #2.
I believe Gremlins had the longest uninterrupted streak at #2 - six weeks.

 Re: (Boring) Weekend Estimates...
Wow, Saturday was pretty decent, and this weekend ended up not being too far from last year. Too bad next week will be worse, not better.
Films that did well Kingsman: The Secret Service The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water The Lazarus Effect McFarland, USA American Sniper The DUFF Still Alice
Films that did okay Fifty Shades of Grey
Films that did bad Hot Tub Time Machine 2
Kingsman and SpongeBob have both finally found their footing, thank goodness, and both should easily exceed their expected ranges of 100 and 150 million respectively. Focus had a good opening for what it was; expectations just got out of hand for a generic looking thriller with some starpower. The Lazarus Effect managed to do over 10 million, which is pretty good, considering it could have done worse. Fifty Shades of Grey appears to be having a similar run to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 legwise; too bad it doesn't have summer weekdays to push it over a 2X multiplier. McFarland should outgross Million Dollar Arm with considerably less fanfare, and The DUFF could also hit 35-40 million total. American Sniper held well despite no major Oscar wins and Still Alice expanded well. Hot Tub Time Machine 2 is a monumental dud.

 Re: (Boring) Weekend Estimates...
Well atleast there were some great drops this weekend to make up for Focus's underwhelming debut, but holy shit at that audience breakdown. I remember when Smith use to be really popular with the under 25 crowd and it's sad that those days seem so long ago. Looks like we will have to wait until Cinderella/Insurgent for the boxoffice to get interesting again.

 Re: (Boring) Weekend Estimates...
I hope Focus fades quickly for the sake of the Spring game, plus also, no matter how good it may be, which doesn't seem that much, it relies too heavily on its leads to compensate for its lack of interesting story. Will Smith is basically a charisma-less Tom Cruise at this point. He should've focused, no pun intended, on his own career instead of trying to further the non-existent acting ability of Jaden.

 Re: (Boring) Weekend Estimates...
Wow @ The Duff and Mcfarland, very good holds for both. The Lazarus Effect did well for itself as well, its probably going to die quickly but atleast its not DOA. Also Still Alice is lowkey slaying, it looks like its going to end up passing Whiplash and Foxcatcher. Thats a big win considering it wasnt nominated for Best Picture. I dont know what happened to Foxcatcher, that film had appealing leads and a compelling story.

 Re: (Boring) Weekend Estimates...
They probably just waited too long before expanding Foxcatcher. Should have just gone wide over Thanksgiving (700-1,000 theaters). I know it's not something that audiences would really like but it shouldn't have been that hard to get enough to go see it.
