Nobody bothers to mention that Selma did actually get a best picture nomination, that 12 Years A Slave won just last year, that an American white male hasn't won best director since 2008 and that Selma was snubbed mostly because of its botched screening release.

I think this bias against genre films is much greater than the bias against non-whites. But that's not gonna get anybody to click/watch. If there wasn't such a bias against genre films, Tyler Perry would have gotten a nomination, and we wouldn't even be discussing race.

For this year? No.

For the industry? Of course.

Will it change? No.

Interesting enough, only one white/non-Hispanic straight make won a major Oscar this year. Just something to think about.

I'd say no and Selma's issue was screeners. Grantland's preview about this nailed it when they said the Academy has a way smaller problem with race and gender than the rest of Hollywood's obsession with white male dominated and targeted films
