Re: The Bling Ring
So this is basically Natural Born Killers for the twitterverse. Also reminded me of Pain & Gain, but those guys never acquired celebrity status.
It's a decent movie overall. I enjoyed the relationship between the two leads and the sexiness of Emma Watson. All of the characters came off as vain and unsympathetic but I suppose that is the point. Unfortunately, because of this the movies message about the fascination of celebrity and expensive things was kind of lost. I didn't see them as a representation of young america, just as a bunch of beautiful assholes. Which is fine. I watch film and television with asshole protagonists all the time. And Danny McBride is no Emma Watson. So B/B-, good try.
If John Wick 2 even makes 30 million I will eat 1,000 shoes.
Same.

I understand where the mixed reviews are coming from. There's not a lot to the film, but I found it quite entertaining regardless. And it is well-shot.
I'd give it a B+.

The Bling Ring
I learned a few things watching The Bling Ring. The first thing is that it's not enjoyable watching people sing badly to good tunes, I'd much rather they were silenced and the music drowned them out. The second thing is that I don't enjoy an hour of watching stupid little rich bitches trying on clothes and saying "Oh God, that's awesome, it looks so good" in their whiney voices. The final thing I learned is that Emma Watson has the biggest forehead I've ever seen on a female. Man, it's huge. And she's got such a boy's body. She is a hideous dyke. The same cannot be said for Katie Chang. She has an appealing and feisty purity and arrogance about her. Very sexy. I'd love to be her friend.
Ok, so onto the film; basically it's a waste of time. This is what happens when you make a film of a story that is just not very interesting at all. They did a crime, and they got caught. The film didn't know where to go because it had nowhere to go. It wasn't even stylishly presented. I mean, there were a few cool shots, but instead of actually being the cocktail of cool it set out to be, it feels like it is just trying to be different and modern. "Let's keep the camera rolling a few seconds longer than they'll think, that will show I am an auteur. Let's do some pointless slow-mo, that will make people think it's poignant". All it made me think was the film didn't have enough content to make it last a normal film length.
Oh yeah, and Emma Watson's American accent was awful. It's not easy to do another accent besides your own, granted, but Emma was clearly compensating. She was over the top, like a sort of caricature of US accents, and her facial mannerisms gave her away too. She is such a terrible actress. It never felt natural. And the dude wearing pink high heels. Fuck off.

Umm, I thought she seemed over-the-top and bad in the trailer. But then I saw a video of the girl she's based on and holy shit. She is dead-on! That is how fake the real girl seemed.

Re: The Bling Ring
Well, Emma is not like her. Emma spoke slow and much more pronounced than Alexis. Plus, Emma was stick thin. If she wanted to make the character more authentic, she should have gained weight. Sorry, but Emma was not dedicated to the role. She is not dedicated to acting as an art. She is just on the wagon to earn millions and be a "star".

You can't reference the character Emma plays without posting this iconic moment in reality television history
