Is Eddie Redmayne in trouble?
With Jupiter Ascending so close to the Oscars. I'm having Eddie Murphy flashbacks of him being the favorite and people blame Norbit coming out so close to the Oscars. Now Redmayne may not be the favorite (I'd say its 60/40 in Keaton's favor) but will this trashy film help tip it even more?
So basically, do you think Jupiter will in anyway affect Redmayne's chances?

Tatum and the Wachowski's will get most of the flack. I can't see Redmayne's Oscar chances being damaged. But as Chippy said, I don't see him as the frontrunner anyway.

I was just gonna bring her up. I'm not really a firm believer in the "bad movie at the time will ruin your chances" argument. It shouldn't take away from the performance. Now bad news or publicity on the other hand, you might have a claim. On the other hand Keaton did this! He is the best!

Honestly, I still think this is his Oscar to lose. Keaton is the cool choice, and I don't think they'll go for that. Buzz will build and build until the 22nd, but come showtime, it'll be the safe yet deserving Redmayne.

Perhaps Redmayne is too young to win the Oscar. He's only 33. Carell is a supporting actor, so he won't get it. Cumberbatch seems to have little momentum and he'll likely get loads of other chances. Bradley Cooper has a good shot but the Academy will be split on the politics of American Sniper. Keaton will get it. He's old, performed well, will never get another chance, and Birdman is an actor's film.

The Keaton schtick only works once. He's not old, but he will never get another chance, and he's the oldest of the candidates, which means the Academy (made up mainly of old bastards) will side with him.

Yeah, Cooper was and is young. Keaton is an over-the-hill mess, actually. He is not typical Oscar material. Perhaps he will have a change of image, but do you really think so? lol.

Keaton in Birdman reminds me of Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler. A perfect, abrasive, volatile, lightning-in-a-bottle synergy between a character and our perception of the actor playing him.
His casting in a supporting role in Kong: Skull Island is, I believe, an indication of the short-term impact Birdman will have on his career: he will be invited to bring a bit of his idiosyncratic Keaton zing and intensity to big films in comparatively peripheral roles.
A la Rourke in Iron Man 2 and Immortals.
