Re: Producers Guild of America (PGA) nominations
Also, no CitizenFour for Documentary? Seems like a political decision.
Whiplash is moving up the awards race and so is Nightcrawler.
Interstellar, well, lol.

Re: Producers Guild of America (PGA) nominations
Selma getting snubbed here is pretty shocking. It's probably on much shakier Oscar ground than I thought.
American Sniper seems like it's going to swoop in with Best Picture and Cooper noms at the Oscars. It has momentum.

Re: Producers Guild of America (PGA) nominations
Looks like Clint Eastwood winning NBR was foreshadowing. Watch out for Eastwood, Cooper and the film getting noms, hehe.
Last year Blue Jasmine and Saving Mr. Banks got PGA noms, but missed BP noms, with Philomena getting in instead.
This year could see Foxcatcher and Nightcrawler or American Sniper missing, with Selma being nominated instead.

Re: Producers Guild of America (PGA) nominations
I'm glad to see Whiplash solidifying its position. It's looking good for a Best Picture nomination. I doubt Foxcatcher makes it in though. Also Nightcrawler just does not seem like Oscar material. I'm not going to believe it until it actually happens.

Re: Producers Guild of America (PGA) nominations
I still don't see Nightcrawler getting a Best Picture nomination. Hopefully Gyllenhaal will be nominated though.
Yay Whiplash!
Selma will get in for Picture at the Oscars.

Re: Producers Guild of America (PGA) nominations
American Sniper looks really strong now, and it has better reviews than Unbroken and should have better box office as well. I'm penciling it in for Best Picture for sure, and Eastwood + Cooper are both strong contenders too.

Go Clint! And show them youngsters how it's done! Now get off my lawn! Dr. Lecter wrote: .., with Philoeman getting in instead. A new superhero? I wrote this on Saturday in the Friday Estimates thread: I have a feeling AS will do much better at the guilds compared to the critics choices and that it will get more nominations than expected. Not that it will win any of those, as it will be probably the 4th or 5th pick in most categories, but it will have a good showing. Looks like I will be right for once.

Re: Producers Guild of America (PGA) nominations
Has The Theory of Everything gone unrecognized by any key precursor? I believe its strength in the race is a bit underestimated. There seems to be serious admiration and adoration for it, particularly the performances.

Re: Producers Guild of America (PGA) nominations
If Whiplash is nominated for the Best Picture Oscar, prolific micro-budget horror maestro Jason Blum will be an Oscar nominee.

Re: Producers Guild of America (PGA) nominations
I'm glad Whiplash made it. I want that in the AMC Best Pic marathon otherwise...it might not be worth it but we'll see.
Selma may sneak in now but it's not getting anywhere near Boyhood friends.

There is some weird thing going on with Selma. I am lacking any explanation. Variety just revealed that Paramount never sent screeners out to the guilds only to Oscar voters. I don't really see it as snub then, and it will definitely get an Oscar nomination. The reviews are too good to ignore.

Re: Producers Guild of America (PGA) nominations
Well no matter how good it may or may not be now it will have no momentum. It won't have the most nominations and will just be one of many films behind Boyhood and Birdman. Should come up empty at the a Globes as well.

Birdman, The Lego Movie, and Life Itself won.

I'm kind of shocked, though I suspect Boyhood is still far ahead in the Oscar race. I think this is good news for Michael Keaton tho.

Re: Producers Guild of America Winners (Surprise!)
Start to remind me of Little Miss Sunshine/The Departed situation, as Birdman is likely to win SAG tomorrow. And I agree while this will generate some buzz about the frontrunner being challenged, in the end it will still win just as The Departed did.

Re: Producers Guild of America Winners (Surprise!)
boyhood is still ahead of Birdman in the race, but birdman winning indicates more about Boyhood's weakness than Birdman's strength. A different movie like American Sniper winning grows greater in possibility by the passing day.

I called it back in the Boyhood won't win Best Picture club, Birdman rightfully wins the crown. Calling it again.
