Thanks Gulli; you're a good reviewer as well, even if your hatred of Harry Potter and love for Transformers has made me question you lately....

Very disappointing, I can't imagine with out reading the book the plot could make sense at all. Very rushed and all the other characters felt like they were pushed to the back burner and only Harry was relevant. C

Not my favorite potter Film, but coming from the most boring book in the frachise this was to be expected. The Acting from Radcliffe was phenomenal, One of the best performences this year.

Finally watched it. I have to hand it to the Harry Potter cast and crew, I'm not sure I can remember seeing such consistency throughout five films. My grade for this one is a B+, which would be the same I would give the previous three (I would give Columbus' films a B). The technical aspects were brilliant, and there was a magnetic undercurrent of gloomy darkness that worked well. Daniel Radcliffe is really growing into a strong actor, although Ron and Hermione don't really factor in this film much at all, so Rupert Grint and Emma Watson don't have much to do. In addition, Imelda Staunton is a perfect casting choice for Umbridge, they got that very, very right. B+

Loved it, especially the first hour and the two new main characters (Luna and Umbridge). The final battle is too fast and a little difficult to understand, but it's not a big flaw. Like the previous 3 flicks, I think it deserves a B+ but I give it an A-. Amazing consistency.

I thought it was really good. More Snape than the last one (but still too little), very dark, very good last 30 minutes or so.

Problems: Pacing was a bit off at times.
The score was too dark. Even during light moments the score would make you think something sinister was going to happen.

Overall ***1/2

2nd favorite potter movie.

Were you sure you were listening to Order of the Phoenix? I thought just; the score didn't fit the atmosphere at all. Especially in the middle section. It was too happy-go-lucky, like the whole Dumbledore's Army thing was just a normal trivial activity at Hogwarts that had nothing to do with the outcome of the wizarding world.

The posession music was great though, and the new ideas with Hedwig's theme were nice, but overall the score was pretty bright and bland.

they curtainly do in book 7, cutting D's Army would have made the film an instant F or even Z.

He's talking about the score. In his estimation, the score made Dumbledore's Army feel like just a normal trvial activity.

Really, I thought if anything, its the first Potter film that seemed rush, well in the end anyway. Everything up til then is extremely well done.

just a small notch below the brilliant GOF and POA, but definitely a bigger step ahead of the too-family-friendly SS and COS [which i'm really pissed to know are the most popular two HP films among general audiences because of how truthful they are to the books]. This continued the franchise's transition into darker grounds very well. HBP and DH will be the real deal as far as darkness goes, though.

Post Re: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
I've watched this two times since midnight, and I've enjoyed it more both times than I did when I first saw it in theatres. Gave it a B+ back in July. The exact same thing happened with HP3. It was the first Potter film I saw AFTER reading the book version, and I left a little unsatisfied since I was expecting alot more from the book that wasn't in the film. Though I still enjoyed it. But after Christmas, I re-watched it several times and grew to like it more. I did not feel this way about HP4 though. I thought they did a very nice job (compared to HP3) of including most things, and it just felt a little more full. And I enjoyed it about the same once I got the DVD.

Now I feel it's perfectly paced (felt it was very rushed before), even if it does move a little too fast during the last half-hour. The only thing I would have liked to have been added, or expanded on was the importance of the prophecy, which they didn't do a very good job on. And to have the Dumbledore/Harry talk at the end better explain it, and have CAPS LOCK Harry in the scene too. So that complaint still remains.

But, I enjoyed it more, so A- now.

I thought I would like the movie better on DVD but I actually liked it lesser. Phoenix could even be my least favorite HP film by now. The movie is just way too disapointing (and short).

As it stands, this one ranks as follows

1. The Prisoner of Azkaban
2. The Chamber of Secrets
3. The Goblet of Fire
4. The Order of the Phoenix.
5. The Phillosophers Stone

I think that it's weakness lies in that not really that much happens in this book.
The entire cast are on their best form to date. The visual effects are wonderful.
But what is there here? Not a lot really. It has a lost feeling of purpose.

I disagree. A ton happens in the book. I'll agree that the movie didn't pick up on a lot of it, but the book was packed with plenty of action and plot.

if this movie was 20-30 minutes longer, it might've been the best Potter movie yet. Which says a lot considering Cuaron was a director of one of the others.

I'm not really a Harry Potter fan, but I've mostly enjoyed all of the movies. The problem is that it's getting harder and harder for me as a casual fan to remember what's going on from film to film and there were times when I was watching this one where I was lost.

But, I like the dark tone the series has, and it's nice to see the characters aging appropriately, instead of seeing a Beaver Cleaver type thing where they write him as if he's 5 years old, even if he was 10.

I like a lot of the adult actors - especially Oldman and Rickman - and I thought the evil school lady was a great villain. Still there were parts where I was bored - partly because of being lost, and partly because it's not really my type of flick. In the end it's about as good as a Harry Potter film could be for me. I'll give it a B
