This is one of the most enjoyable holiday movies I've ever seen. Will Ferrell is laugh-out-loud funny in this one, and did a good job. Though the movie could have been better, I was very pleased with it.

I saw Elf in about its 4th or 5th week and with the great legs and reviews it was having, I expected greatness. The result was a little less than I would have wanted. Elf, though, is still a great movie. Ferrell does a great job, and I like the retro beginning.

A fun Christmas movie (and the most decorative movie ever made). It manages to keep it's goofiness throughout the movie, though sometimes a little too much.

I was horrably board during the film. I found it underwhelming, annoying, and terribly unfunny.

I agree. I'm not a fan of Will Ferrell, and I just find him utterly annoying. This movie was so overrated, and I expected so much more from it. I'd have to give it a D as well.

I loved Elf. From the cheesy beginning that perfectly captured the look and feel of those old Christmas specials to the over-the-top Christmas spirit ending it was almost perfect. Will Ferrell was perfect as buddy. It was also fun to see Bob Newhart in a small part. It's my new favorite holiday movie. I grade it an A-.

This is on television right now and it really makes me wish it was Christmas.
I didn't think at the time it came out I would consider it a "Christmas classic," but this and Love Actually are the only ones I can think of released in the last few years that will stay with me.

I'd say that The Polar Express is a Christmas classic for years. : ) Well, at least IMO. Now I liked Love Actually more, but if I think of a good heartwarming recent Christmas flick, I want to see The Polar Express right away.

Heh, Im watching it too!
Very charming movie and funny to boot.
I agree on the "Christmas Classic" remark. Goes right up there with Nightmare Before Christmas, which my dad insists isn't a Christmas movie, but I will forever disagree with him.

In my bottom 10 of all time.
God, I hate this movie beyond words. Coming in, it was one of my more anticipated of the year, coming out was a pure expression of WTF. Not a single laugh, boredom throughout, bad performances, the "kid" angle, too childish, too offbeat on purporse, and so on. I could go into detail, but let's just say this was one of the few times I've left a theatre with absolute disgust at what I just saw.
Elf was the beginning of the end of my Will Ferrell fandom, aside from Anchorman all of his recent projects have gotten the thumbs down from me. He has fallen high off his pedestal.
And by the way, I've seen this movie about 3 times, once more on a plane, and once more with a friend, so it wasn't just a one time thing. It's seriously awful. Where the amazing WOM and legs came from, is beyond me.

A decent holiday movie. Doesn't live up to it's potential at all; I had expected a wholly different movie when I had heard the premise, and this just seemed really weak. Still, it had some laughs, and it was quirky. B-

Re: Elf
Ferrell's best performance and movie to date. His performance is just as charismatic as Amy Adams' in Enchanted, minus the singing ability (although he does try haha), in a movie mixing a fantastic sense of humor with a touching story about an outsider wanting to love and be loved. This was Jon Favreau's first big movie, right? It's definitely his best work to date. The best Christmas film in recent memory.

Finally caught up with it after all these years. I am not impressed. Zooey Deschanel is cute as hell here, but that is offset by Will Ferrell being annoying as fuck. I was sick of his performance 15 minutes into the film... Why this film is so popular is beyond me.
